Cry with a Smile Lyrics
Cry with a smile
My heart is bleeding
Bewildered, I'm here alone
Why is there pain in a beautiful moment?
Why do I feel so lost, so empty?
Cry with a smile
My heart is healing from pain I knew that would come
Why is there luck in a deeply sad moment?
Why do I feel so calm, so peaceful?
Take my heart and set it free
Take my heart and give it time to heal
I know; in my memories you'll live
Take my heart a little while
Take it with you to the place you'll go
I know we will meet again someday
Cry with a smile
My heart was dreaming of time I knew would come to an end
Why do I cry about a beautiful memory?
Why do I feel so hurt, so lonely?
Take my heart and set it free
Take my heart and give it time to heal
I know; in my memories you'll live
Take my heart a little while
Take it with you to the place you'll go
I know we will meet again someday
My heart is bleeding
Bewildered, I'm here alone
Why is there pain in a beautiful moment?
Why do I feel so lost, so empty?
My heart is healing from pain I knew that would come
Why is there luck in a deeply sad moment?
Why do I feel so calm, so peaceful?
Take my heart and give it time to heal
I know; in my memories you'll live
Take my heart a little while
Take it with you to the place you'll go
I know we will meet again someday
My heart was dreaming of time I knew would come to an end
Why do I cry about a beautiful memory?
Why do I feel so hurt, so lonely?
Take my heart and give it time to heal
I know; in my memories you'll live
Take my heart a little while
Take it with you to the place you'll go
I know we will meet again someday

To me it sounds like the song is about losing a loved one but the loss imparts both a feeling of sadness and happiness/contentment.
For example if a loved one were suffering from cancer or Alzheimer's. It's always sad to see your loved ones go, but after a long and painful struggle with such awful diseases you also feel good for their sake because they can let go and not suffer any more.
It reminds me a bit of my grandfather who had Alzheimer's. He'd been so far gone for a while that I'd already gone through most of the grieving process when he finally passed away. At that point, while still feeling distraught, I felt content because his suffering was over.
Someone dear died on the same day that something good happened.
^ I agree
It's definately about being confused about your emotion. You're happy, yet sad. The chorus seems to imply that it's about someone dying.
According to an interview to Floor herself, she wrote this after her dog died, when he/she was 15 years old (lived a long time). I felt precisely the same thing when my dog died, just about a month ago. The sadness of having lost that member of my family, but happy because all the memories that he left behind where marvelous. I suppose that's what the lyrics mean.
