The Farthest Star Lyrics
The will to greatness clouds the mind
Consumes the senses, veils the signs
We each are meant to recognize.
Redeeming graces cast aside
Enduring notions, new found promise,
That the end will never come.
We live in times when all seems lost,
But time will come when we'll look back,
Upon ourselves and on our failings.
Embrace the void even closer still,
Erase your doubts as you surrender everything:
We possess the power,
If this should start to fall apart,
To mend divides,
To change the world,
To reach the farthest star.
If we should stay silent.
If fear should win our hearts,
Our light will have long diminished,
Before it reaches the farthest star.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps
Enduring thoughts, enduring scenes.
The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost,
From a dead man to a world.
Without restraint, unafraid and free.
We possess the power,
If this should start to fall apart,
To mend divides,
To change the world,
To reach the farthest star.
If we should stay silent.
If fear should win our hearts,
Our light will have long diminished,
Before it reaches the farthest star.
If we fall and break,
All the tears in the world cannot make
us whole
Again.
We possess the power,
If this should start to fall apart,
To mend divides,
To change the world,
To reach the farthest star.
If we should stay silent.
If fear should win our hearts,
Our light will have long diminished,
Before it reaches the farthest star.
Consumes the senses, veils the signs

Yes, 'fear' is what holds us back from realizing what we are capable of, in ways that benefit our existence (physically and spiritually) rather than destroy it. Because we are taught that certain things are not possible, when they are. And even when those possibilities are in your face, it takes time to get over that fear, and realize that you have the power within you too. Once one person has experienced this, they can show the next person, who will show the next person... This could get all deep, beware my Judgement comments.
I like the metaphorical use of crossing a great instellar void (or maybe it's just me) for seeing the future in a brighter light. In particular, I like this line.
"Embrace the void even closer still....We possess the power...To mend divides, To change the world, To reach the farthest star."
This is where I saw this comment! I was thinking about what you said today, and couldn't remember who said it. I love the line too, I was pondering it today and it made a lot of sense to me. I'd also like to say, I am very sorry I get so deep everywhere I go...I say like the same shit about every song. I look at a pile of dog crap on the ground and think it's about spiritual evolution. I guess it's just in the back of my mind 24/7 :/
I to really really enjoy the line "Embrace the void even closer still....We possess the power...To mend divides, To change the world, To reach the farthest star." I find it to be one of their more powerfull messages comared to some of the ones in Matter + Form.
What means a lot to me is "We live in times when all seems lost, But time will come when we'll look back, upon ourselves and on our failings." Too often we don't realize what good times we're having until we look back, so the key is to realize in the moment that these are good times not to be taken for granted. And if we're lucky we'll be able to look back. The part about our failings to me means we're just human.
For me? Well im a twisted soul.
The first lines are a statement of a extremist who is thinking of havoc. the rest is a sort of mixed feeling, should i do it or should i dont?
am i the one to do this or ............................?
i think it saying live life to the fullest
From a dead man to a world. Without restraint, unafraid and free.
wow!
these guys have skills! beautiful music
This song has a message simple and clear: we have the ability for greatness in a world that is giving up hope, but we must use this power, or else it will die.
I think this song really comes across as carrying the same underlying meaning as nearly all of VNV Nation's songs.
I see it as a testament to undying truth and justice, a sort of innate human light that can permeate from all of mankind so long as they permit that light to exist within them. It's about a sort of humanistic spirituality, to live is enough of a religious experience in itself and filled with infinite wonder.
VNV's song are filled with the full spectrum of this humanly religious experience, from rage at the darkness to persisting hope. This particular song focuses on the power of that human spirit. The world and mankind's existence is delicate and tenuous, but we have the wisdom to protect it.
Nothing is beyond our grasp.
