Wham City Lyrics

There is a mountain of snow, up past the big glen
We have a castle enclosed, there is a fountain
Out of the fountain flows gold, into a huge hand
That hand is held by a bear who had a sick band

Of ghosts and cats
And pigs and bats
With brooms and bats
And wigs and rats
And play big dogs like queens and kings
And everyone plays drums and sings

About big sharks
Sharp swords
Beast bees
Bead lords
Sweet cakes
Mace lakes

O ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma

I hope in my heart that we on a whole
Will die and the earth be left alone
Just beast and bee and fish and tree
This hope I wish will someday be
That bacteria will have ate our remains
That all knowledge of us has decayed
Our burden raised the world set free
The earth returns to land and sea
Our buildings burned and highways gone
I love my friends and everyone
but we've had our chance let's move aside
let time wash us out with the tide

I'd be annoyed by the rhyming of "bats" with "bats" if this wasn't a fucking incredible song.

I know! The annoying rhyming of bats and bats is finally some of what makes the song fucking incredible.

Even though the second part of the lyrics is fucking amazing, I like to think that the chorus of the song is a very weird and abstract description of a city, or maybe the society, where everything seems to be absolutely logical and organized, but it's in fact absolutely insane and with the weirdest administration of power .Art has become actually the easiest way to entertain and distract people from the abomination and life they are living but it's actually hypocritical, so it becomes symmetrical and at the same time antithetical with the idea of art in itself, and all this is what leads dan to the conclusion that our existence is no worth being if we don't know really how to live, and how to use our greatests capacities.

That's the rest of the song.

This song is so much more intense and meaningful than it sounds.

I am sure these lyrics are not sung on the recording.

7 minutes, 43 seconds into the song, listen again.

Love the second part. That is my world view.

Screw technology, go back to how things were meant to be. Hell yeah.

But Dan Deacon's music is entirely based on technology.

I understand what you're saying though.

i don't think hes talking about technology, but actually we are gone, earth starts something new, human era like the dinosaur era is gone....but who really knows.

and i know what you mean, i would love to live a simple life, not this bustling one. where college is my dad teaching me how to grow wheat, brew beer, make bread and hunt deer. :-)

anyways, rediculious song, and i think its crazy deacon actually wrote those lyrics their so good. lol...beautiful

In that last part, I don't think he means "screw technology, let's go back to hunting deer". It seems to me like it's more like something along the lines of what VHEMT (voluntary human extinction mouvement) is trying to say.

According to lyric sheets handed out at one of his shows... ( http://farm1.static.flickr.com/230/499525519_1cd771db03.jpg?v=1179238005 ) Correct lyrics should be

There is a mountain of snow Up past the big glen *

and

Sweet cakes maste lakes *

"We have a castle enclosed, there is a fountain" perhaps should read "We have a castle, enclosed there is a fountain." See anything like that on his handout?

What does "maste" mean? Is that the right word?

Cover art for Wham City lyrics by Dan Deacon

The line should read "mace* lakes", not "maste lakes".
