Magnet Lyrics

Now it's decision time
Which one will stay, which one will say goodbye
Just my luck to find
Someone who makes me want to leave her behind

We took the backseat, everyone was happy
We took the back where everybody laughed
We took the backseat, everyone was happy

Now it's decision time
Which one will stay, which one will say goodbye

I've woken up in so many rooms
I'm sorry that I left so soon, I
Didn't wanna break anybody's mood
Cause last night, you woke me up
We almost fell in love
But then you said
It is time for bed

We took the backseat, everyone was happy
We took the back where everybody laughed
We took the backseat, everyone was happy

I think that this is a song about a guy who is in a long-term relationship. I think he seeks to end this relationship, but is ultimately too much of a coward to directly finish things. He meets another girl, someone "who makes him want to leave her behind", her meaning his girlfriend, but he somehow can't bring himself to finish his relationship. He keeps taking the backseat, pleasing others, burying his head in the sand to keep the peace. He can't choose which one to stay and which to leave behind, but he knows he needs to make a choice, "It's decision time". It seems he sought someone to help him end things in his relationship, but realizes that even this doesn’t make breaking up with her easy. He cheats on his girlfriend often "woken up in so many rooms", but doesn’t tell her because he can’t “break anyone’s mood”. Perhaps "almost fell in love" means that things were progressing with the other woman, but she ended it, she put the relationship to bed "it is time for bed" because she couldn't bear waiting around for the relationship with the girlfriend to end. Magnet describes the notion of being pulled towards someone or something, without having control over it. He finds himself drawn to this girl, but doesn't quite know what to do about it because he's such a coward with regard to his relationship.

i don't know if this is an old version of the song but these lyrics aren't correct to the album version. which goes:

now its decision time which one will stay, which one will say goodbye and just my luck to find someone who makes me want to leave her behind

we took the backseat, everyone was happy we took the back where everybody laughed we took the backseat, everyone was happy

now its decision time, which one will stay, which one will say goodbye

and i've woken up in so many rooms i'm sorry that i left so soon, i, didn't want to break anybody's mood

cause last night you woke me up, and we almost fell in love, but then you said, "it is time for bed."

we took the backseat, everyone was happy we took the back where everybody laughed we took the backseat, everyone was happy

at least...thats what i hear. amazing song.

I always heard it as

He took the vaccine, everyone was happy He to back where everybody left

rather than

we took the backseat, everyone was happy we took the back where everybody laughed

I agree that it's "he" and not "we", but I think "backseat" is correct.
