I love the dykeenies a lot.. and this song has a different meaning to me.. This is only my opinion and how i interpreted the lyrics.

"When you feel so weak and you scratch those stitches reminding you of why you fell away after the offset.."

*The feeling of being powerless.. as in he's about to give up on something.. Looking back on a past failure and being reminded about how he failed at it. You only get stitches after having an accident right? Its a metaphor as in having an emotional scar about something that happened in his past.

"and you cant hold sleep and you gamble more than enough you cant depend on them"

*Not being able to think or concentrate on anything but what he failed at. "And you gamble more than enough" means he took a lot of risks to succeed at something but the end result wasn't in his favor. "You can't depend on them" i took this lyric as in you can't depend on anyone but yourself, especially when it comes to your dreams. If you want it happen you have to make it happen on your own.

"still, i adore the taste of rain and the bounce of bone on ground it reminds me.."

*"Still, i adore the taste of rain" meaning that he isn't afraid to fail at something. "and the bounce of bone on ground.. it reminds me.." is a metaphor as in when you fall but you have to pick yourself up. Just like when you don't succeed at something, you have to give it another shot.

"make a wish tonight all the stars are out its out of your hands but not out of reach just..."

"its not out of reach no this is not out of reach.."

*Even after he failed to succeed at something he's still going after his dreams or something that he's been wishing for. Even after many attempts its still something that he doesnt want to give up on. "Its our of your hands but not out of reach" he's saying that it isn't impossible to achieve what you're going after and not to give up =) And he isn't going to give up until he reaches his goal. This is actually my favorite verse out of the whole song. Its very powerful to me.

*"But you feel so week..you've burst those stitches" meaning that he's still trying to acheive whatever it is that he's going after. This verse is very hard to explain.. i think he still wants to give up but he's still trying to make something that he wished for come true.

*I took this as someone building him up to fail. Another obstical that he has to overcome to reach his goal.

*Don't be afraid to fail at whatever it is your going after.

Basically he's saying that everyone falls from time to time. But its up to us to get back up and give it another try. No matter how painful it might be for some people when their trying to make their dreams come true you just have to keep trying. "Its out of your hand but not out of reach".. everything is possible =)

OMG. Why has no one commented this yet!? I've spent all day watching this on the wii =D I guess its about memories coming back & hurting you? ie; "and you scratch those stitches" - something triggers the pain kinda thing. it's deeper than that but I'm crap at explaining it.

Oh the video is marvellous! Very very amazing! So powerful, why can this band always make a song sound so breathless and so passionate with barely any effort? Great song, the lyrics are making me teary by reading them, am full out crying when I hear them sang

First of all, i love this song, it's beautiful :) As for meanings go, i think it's about experiencing pain and suffering and a means to appreciate the good things that happen. I'm not really sure how to explain, ha. But just the lines: "still, i adore the taste of rain and the bounce of bone on ground".

It's about when Brian was in hospital when the band had just started... Something to do with his throat.. and there was a chance he might never sing again!

Are you sure? It sounds possible but it does sound more as though it's about memories and how they comfort people - keeping them "safe".

The "bounce of bone" and "taste of rain"... 2 senses, touch and taste, that are commonly linked with memories. Probably nostalga to be perfectly honest... I have the exact feelings about my childhood... infact, this song provides a barrier of reasons to look back. Maybe this is the purpose? I don't know - but it certainly has that effect on me.

the "dont , dont run away dear" could be saying dont run away from the pain??
