Goodbye Mickey Finn Lyrics
Dig the ditch Dig the ditch of destiny
With the spade, with the spade of apathy
Your digging boots will stay clean
Until you realize where you've been
Its not what you do that says who you are
The way you do it is who you are
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
Build the wall build the wall of loneliness
With the brick of hope and trust
your aching hands will curl up
Then you'll realize what you've done
Its not what you do that says who you are
The way you do it is who you are
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
As long as they're beating the drums
Then the race isn't won
Until you've opened your eyes
On your ordinary life
If the clock keeps ticking you'll go
Wherever the wind blows
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
As long as they're beating the drums
Then the race isn't won
Until you've opened your eyes
On your ordinary life
If the clock keeps ticking you'll go
Wherever the wind blows
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
If the clock keeps ticking you'll go
Wherever the wind blows
With the spade, with the spade of apathy
Your digging boots will stay clean
Until you realize where you've been
The way you do it is who you are
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
With the brick of hope and trust
your aching hands will curl up
Then you'll realize what you've done
The way you do it is who you are
As long as the clock keeps ticking, you'll go
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
Then the race isn't won
Until you've opened your eyes
On your ordinary life
Wherever the wind blows
wherever the wind blows
As long as there's life worth living, you'll go
Wherever you go
Then the race isn't won
Until you've opened your eyes
On your ordinary life
Wherever the wind blows
wherever the wind blows
Wherever the wind blows

i absolutely love this song
fav song on the album luv it
A 'Mickey Finn' is pretty much a spiked drink, which makes you pass out so that people could rob you and leave you in an alley with no memory of what happened that night.
I think this song is about saying goodbye to not being aware of what happens like when it says "the race isn't won, til you've opened your eyes on your ordinary life".
any other suggestions are appreciated :)

The lead singer Jake, who wrote the song said "It's just about this rough time I had in my life and um, it was just before we wrote Perfect Distraction, and um, basically, I was doing bad stuff, you know like, swearing, drinking too much soda pop, cheating at Scrabble, that was probably my worst one.. And um, it wasn't untill the band said like, Jake, sort yourself out otherwise you're not going to be able to do a record, and yeh, Micky Finn is just like a metaphor for just saying goodbye to that old life style..."
