Working Class Hero (John Lennon cover) Lyrics

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate if you're clever and despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like all the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

Well, in case people didn't know, this is a John Lennon song that Green Day covered. The lyrics are rather self-explanatory, and it speaks of alienation in a lower social class. Obviously, nothing beats Lennon's version, but Green Day's version works well with the more political material they've been doing in the past couple of years.

I think that verse is the entire point of the song....

You have to be a leader, you have to go for what you want, and let NOTHING get in the way

This is a very good song and i think Greenday did very well with it. I still like Marianne Faithfuls version the best, but i love pretty much everything by her.

i love this song so much. i swear it inspires me everytime i hear it to stick up for the people around me, especially when people are trying to get other people to conform into uncaring slaves. they fucking sicken me. im so glad that this song is for darfur, they really need it now

Green Day has become way too political and they used to be so good. I hate how bands are getting all political out of nowhere, just sing about whats been making you so good all these years.
