The Battle Lyrics

I don’t need a slap in the face, I’m already at the bottom of the sea.
Should have known this armour was heavy when the battle was declared by me.

But you weren’t listening too hard,
Under every word’s a jaded heart.
And you weren’t listening too hard, now were you?

Can you pull your head out a moment and try to find a second just to breathe?
I was trying to be a picture, a pillar of solidity you see?
But you weren’t listening too hard,
Under every word’s a jaded heart.
Now give me your best and I’ll take it, feel it, breathe it,
Then watch me throw it back to you.

Coz you weren’t listening too hard,
No, under every word’s a jaded heart.
Now give me your best and I’ll take it, feel it, breathe it,
And watch me throw it back to you.
Back to you.
Back to you.

Missy said at her show that this song was about a dissagreement she had with another song writter and they both left and wrote a song about it... I cant believe she can do that and write an awsome song... go girl!

This song is fantastic, Missy is a brilliant songwriter. The version I've been listening to til now has the word "fragile" instead of "jaded" in the chorus, she must have changed it since I suppose.

I always thought the song was about a fight between the singer and another person, where the other person doesn't see the vulnerability in the singer and perhaps the underlying reason for why the singer started/continues the fight. The singer simply keeps throwing the argument back on the other person as a sort of cry for help... wanting them to see this vulnerability.

I wonder who the songwriter was who she had a fight with? It seems to me like it'd be someone pretty close to her.

It sounds to me that the person started a fight that she no longer has the strength to continue fighting. Now, the other person is being stubborn and not listening to the meaning of her words in the first place.
