Forgive Me Lyrics
Oh my son look at what I've done
But I am learning still
Learning still
Know that I am learning still
And oh my wife you are my life
And I am burning still
Burning still
Know that I am burning for you still
And all, all, all of my light is for you
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please forgive me
Oh my God how you make it hard
Not to pick the apple
Pick the apple
And Lord I long to give it back
And I was on shakey land
Lost and unsure I opened my hand
And she held it like sinking sand
And all, all, all of my light is for you
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please
All, all, all of my light is for you
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please forgive me
Forgive me
Forgive me
But I am learning still
Learning still
Know that I am learning still
And oh my wife you are my life
And I am burning still
Burning still
Know that I am burning for you still
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please forgive me
Not to pick the apple
Pick the apple
And Lord I long to give it back
Lost and unsure I opened my hand
And she held it like sinking sand
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please
And home, home's anywhere you are too
So take this one fallen man on his knees
Saying please forgive me
Forgive me

A man who has cheated and is seeking forgiveness from his family and God. He couldn't resist the apple, just like Eve.
Personally I think this song may be a carry on from “the river” I think it is the aftermath of domestic violence. The dads back saying please take me back you are my family my life, and at the beginning of the song I’m pretty sure she writes “oh, my wife you are my life.” Which would make more sense. Just a thought but let me know what you think.
thingyyo, I can see where you are coming from here, however, i will have to disagree this time. I think reference to the "apple" is a strong indication of a husband, who has cheated on his wife, and is begging for forgiveness from his wife and family, as you said, schbecca.
There is apart of a verse missing, and some of the words are wrong... Otherwise an amazing song. She has such an amazing voice...very powerful...and i love it how she is live on the album!
"So take this one fallen lad on his knees" Its Man not Lad
Not to be the apple, be the apple Its "Not to pick the apple, pick the apple"
"And oh, my God How you make it hard Not to be the apple, be the apple"
And this is the carry on from the verse.. And Lord I long to give it back And i was on shakey land Lost in and unsure i opened my hand and she held it like sinking sand.
Cheers
when missy played this song live at the tivoli(i was there omg awesome) she explained this song was about a man seeking forgiveness... which is self explainitory i guess. its a beautiful song and i love how missy sings songs from a mans perspective as well. it just shows how she treats everyone as equals and is willing to be a bit androginous
this song makes me think more about "special two" than "the river", because its all about temptation. i definitely think its about cheating as opposed to domestic violence, especially with lines like the one about how he "opened his hand and she held it like sinking sand" and all the apple references are biblical references about temptation. probably more likely to be tempted to cheat on your wife than to hit your family? i love the fact that despite the references to eve, its the man who's been unfaithful. LOVE this song soo much.
when i saw missy live she said it was about a man having an afair with his wife with the happy endings massage lady and comming back begging for forgiveness from his wife and showing his son what not to do.
This song gives me chills every time I hear it, and almost makes me cry. I think it signifies the inner torment a person who has cheated on his wife and family. It expresses this mans true and inner feelings of the pain he has caused his family and how much love he truly has for them. He is no better than Eve was in the Garden of Eden and that he is fallible.
I don't think this is about infidelity. I think it's much more simple than that. I think it's just someone asking for forgiveness for all the things they've done wrong in a relationship. We all do regretful things in a relationship, little or big.

I love how it is the man, and not the woman who takes the apple in the song. The woman who suffers because of what her husband did, it's strong imagery. As for what it means I'm not sure, however he has caused great pain by his actions to himself and worst of all to the one's he loves.
