There's a train leaving town,
If you hurry up I think you just might make it
Dammit I hope you make it
Conscience is a faint, unpleasant sound,
You've worried enough, here's your chance so take it
Dammit I hope you take it
A heart attack is sleeping in your chest, waiting until the timing's best
So make a move, while you're still breathing

Say so long to innocence
From underneath the evidence
You taste like Heaven, but God knows you're built for sin

There's a lie, for every truth,
If you take these pills, I think you just might make it
Dammit I hope you make it
When you were mine, was I for you,
Just one cheap thrill just to help you make it
Dammit I hope you didn't fake it
Hypocrisy has really aged you well
The white on your nose is your secret to tell
So you should speak, while they're still listening

Say so long to innocence
From underneath the evidence
You taste like Heaven, but God knows your built for sin

You can scream out loud
But your panic falls on deaf ears
This is where you've brought yourself
And this is what you've always feared
There's a faceless crowd, with no sympathy
So you can scream out loud
But there's no one listening

Say so long to innocence
From underneath the evidence
You taste like Heaven, but God knows your built for sin

i agree with jedigirl... this song is about drug addiction and what it can do to a relationship... and actually i feel every word to this song cuz i know how it feels being in a relationship with someone who is an addict...

in the first verse he is telling the girl to get help... help is the train leaving town... in the line "conscience is a faint, unpleasant sound. you've worried enough, here's your chance so take it" i feel he is telling her to listen to the voice saying what she is doing is wrong even though she really doesn't like what its saying... and if she doesn't listen and get help its going to be like a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off because you never know when the drugs will be too much to handle (a heart attack is sleeping in your chest) so you need to get help while you still can (so make a move while you're still breathing)

i think he is basically saying in the chorus your cover is blown and you aren't as innocent as you look... and as much as i want to be with you, i can't because of your issues

in the second verse he is saying did i mean anything to you or was it a lie? was i just someone to catch you when you fell? (when you were mine, was i for you, just one cheap thrill just to help you make it? dammit i hope you didn't fake it)... he's also telling her that her lies are starting to wear her down (hypocrisy has really aged you well) and she needs to come clean to everyone before she drives everyone away and while people still care about her (the white on your nose is your secret to tell so you should speak while they're still listening)

in the bridge, its come to the point where her life has fallen apart because she didn't come clean with everyone and she didn't get help and pretty much everyone has washed their hands clean of her, including him (you can scream outloud but your panic falls on deaf ears)... he's telling her that she can't blame anyone else because she did this to herself (this is where you've brought yourself and this is what you've always feared)... i think that the world is the "faceless crowd" that he is referring to and the world has no sympathy for her and neither does he anymore

ong explaination i know... BUT i think it's what the song is about... ;-)

In the top lyric its "Heaven" not Heave".

To the song, its clearly about drug addiction.(The white on your nose is your secret to tell). I think its from the perspective of an old boyfriend seeing this girl again and trying to help her, wondering if he was just lied to during their entire relationship. Her innocence left with the drugs, perhaps if you want a sexual slant, she sells her body for drugs.

Cant believe I'm only the 2nd comment on this song!

    Song Meaning

Kenneth Nixon (lead Vcals) knew somebody who was on drugs — actually in a real passionate relationship that he was in — and this song is about that. One of the lines in particular — “The white on your nose is your secret to tell.” A girlfriend of his was on cocaine and that basically was the reason their relationship failed and he didn’t want to deal with that anymore. She tried to keep it a lie to everyone and it seemed like she was straight. But she realy wasen't.

She is starting to lose him, and he wants her to realize that, even though he doesn't think she'll even care. He knows she is fragile even though she thinks she is strong and doesn't think she needs anybody. She uses people and doesn't care, as long as they are there to use because then she doesn't have to feel anything. The innocence was lost because she realized what she was doing and chose to keep doing it anyways. He pleads with her to be open to love, to allow it in before her pain kills any chance, before it is too late, before everyone turn their backs on her. He hopes so much the what they had was real, that he wasn't just another pawn, but in the end, he realizes all she cares about is silencing the pain. But when everyone is gone, the pain is still there, and it doesn't matter how hard she tries to bury it, it doesn't matter what drugs she takes or how many people she steps on. It doesn't matter how loud her silent screams are, nobody hears and nobody cares because she has misused every last one.

at some points it sounds like its about a girl thats trying to get away but then it sounds like a girl whose losing her virginity hence the "say so long to innocence from underneath the evidence" and on the other hand it sounds like this girls really bad news all together with the "you taste like heaven but god knows youre built for sin" and then the other point since shes got such bad intentions this guy does something to her hence "u can scream out loud but your panic falls on deaf ears this is where youve brought yourself this is what youve always feared" but all in all its an amazing song

Yea i agree. He was with a girl who was probably good when they got together. And maybe he was the one to take her verginity but then she got into drugs and so now she has become a prostitute to get money for her drugs.

To me it just sounds like she's a drug addict

'If you take these pills, I think you just might make it' And 'The white on your nose is your secret to tell'

Sound like drug references to me =S

i think this is about a girl whose best guy friend, who has always been there for her, realizes that she's slowly turning into a whore, or he just realized that she is one, and now he's saying that "your panic falls on deaf ears" cause he's always been there to help her, but now she's taken advantage of him, so now she's become someone she would hate, if she saw her self now a couple months ago. and he's done all he can do, he has to get out, before she gets to him too.

this song isnt about drug addiction. He is using drug addiction to get his point across. I can relate to this song big time. His girlfriend (ex) was a gir he was inlove with. She cheated on him several times and eventually he let her go. (if you listen to the whole cd ull know what all happened in the relationship) anyways so she cheated on him. She gets thrills from cheating and hooking up with other guys. Hes hoping she leaves town for good. The pills refer to other guys..if she takes these other pills i think u just might make it..meaning if she goes with these other guys she will be okay. Say so long to innocence From underneath the evidence You taste like Heaven, but God knows you're built for sin this whole chorus means shes no longer innocent to him b/c he now has the evidence to prove other wise. the taste like heaven means he loves her but shes just horrible girlfriend and not loyal.Hypocrisy has really aged you well The white on your nose is your secret to tell this all means that shes a hyprocrit and probley told him that hes a horrible person and he cheat when its her that really does. The white on your nose is your secrt to tell explains that every guy can see that shes a cheater but its her secret to tell guys that she is.

Its probably only me but I hear implications of rape

"Say so long to innocence From underneath the evidence You taste like Heaven, but God knows your built for sin" AND "You can scream out loud But your panic falls on deaf ears This is where you've brought yourself And this is what you've always feared"

sounds like rape to me lol. I feel horrid 4 saying that but thats what it sounds like to me.

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
