Q&A
Katydid Lyrics
Why don't you tell me what's wrong, baby?
I'll do all I can.
And if it's about where we're heading,
maybe, you have the wrong man.
Cause' I can see for miles
when the sun is up,
but it's midnight and I can't see at all.
It's so hard and I can't think at all.
It's so hard and I don't think we're working out.
If you ever got the time, darling.
Why don't you give me a call.
I just want to say I'm so sorry.
I never knew it all.
It's alright.
We're so stupid and we're young.
Love is blind,
it was words that really stung.

The likeness to Sufjan really rings clear on this song. At least in the instruments, the vocals and lyrics themselves I feel are no where near as robust.
All comparisons aside, this song has a very interesting mood shift from the first lines to the last. He is willing to do anything he can for her, unless it has to do with their future. When the strings come in after "I never knew it all" it feels as though the his own words have finally sunk in. Even when you know you have to break it off with someone, there is always that sadness that the violins embody.
This is a beautiful, heartbreaking song written by a gifted 19-year-old.
What a promising future...
[Katydids are insects in the grasshopper family... I just found out...]
just a couple corrections (and i don't mean to sound conceited)--there were no strings on this particular recording (it's oboe and french horn), and i was 15 when i wrote it, which hopefully helps explain the triteness of the lyrics.
I stand corrected. You're a great songwriter Will, keep up the good work. Do you have an official website?
ooo now im intimidated because he actually wrote something haha. to ME the most interesting part about this song is": "Cause' I can see for miles when the sun is up, but it's midnight and I can't see at all."
because its so true. During the daytime its easier to step back and realize that things aren't working out but when it gets dark its harder to to have that same clearheaded strength.
