Bottom Of The Bay Lyrics
Did I slip… did I trip?
Did I somehow fall and lose my grip?
Can it truly be our song is lost at sea?
Marooned…?
Weren't we?
There were guitars and stars and you and me…
Was our melody misplaced?
Or was our memory erased? (I recall…)
In the glowing rumor of a moon
Our melodies made mermaids swoon
And we, by chance, glanced Neptune sway
Till he stole it all away
To the bottom of the bay
There was you, there was me
Happily cast away by some mutiny
We rum'd and strummed and drummed up our own treasure
And every note he heard…did Poseidon pilfer every word?!
We have lost the key; can find no rest, no rhythm, rhyme nor measure…(I recall…)
Did I slip…did I trip?
Did I somehow fall and lose my grip?
"To bring back the song to light of day…
To strum to sing, to hum, to play…
To hear the call," the Sirens scream,
"Plunge back into the briny dream!"
Where in the glowing rumor of the moon
Our melodies made mermaids swoon
And we by chance glanced Neptune sway
In the glowing rumor of the moon
Our melodies made mermaids swoon
And we by chance glanced Neptune sway
Till they stole it all away to the bottom of the bay
Did I somehow fall and lose my grip?
Can it truly be our song is lost at sea?
Marooned…?
Weren't we?
There were guitars and stars and you and me…
Was our melody misplaced?
Or was our memory erased? (I recall…)
Our melodies made mermaids swoon
And we, by chance, glanced Neptune sway
Till he stole it all away
To the bottom of the bay
Happily cast away by some mutiny
We rum'd and strummed and drummed up our own treasure
And every note he heard…did Poseidon pilfer every word?!
We have lost the key; can find no rest, no rhythm, rhyme nor measure…(I recall…)
Did I somehow fall and lose my grip?
"To bring back the song to light of day…
To strum to sing, to hum, to play…
To hear the call," the Sirens scream,
"Plunge back into the briny dream!"
Our melodies made mermaids swoon

Our melodies made mermaids swoon

just my take, seems like a couple was somewhere on a beach and made some sweet, sweet music together, and then lost it somehow when they went back to their lives...maybe Neptune/Posiedon heard it and liked it so much he stole it for himself and that's why they don't have it anymore.
I may be way off, but this is my take.
I get the sense that Roger is reminiscing about his past experiences in The Refreshments and how they transformed into the Peacemakers.
The first verse refers to how the Refreshments were dropped by their record label and how he and P.H. felt "marooned" (Marooned…?Weren't we?). Roger, perhaps feels that he might be to blame (Did I somehow lose my grip?).
The chorus, is a general statement about their rise and fall and how they were once in the limelight and their songs made the ladies swoon, till it was all taken away.
It's the second verse that I get the sense that the "we" he's writting about is P.H. and himself . "We rum'ed and STRUMMED and DRUMMED up our own treasure" is a pretty strong clue of how Roger and P.H. created the Peacemarkers on an Independent label.
The last verse pretty much sums up how they, almost by accident, fell back into the limelight. They're once again making the ladies (sirens) scream and how they themselves are back to living the dream.
