Heavy Boots Lyrics
Heavy boots for crying out loud
Heavy boots are caught up in the crowd
You hear the news we haven't got a chance
Heavy boots we're crawling on our hands
Smokestacks burning up my bills
New York cuts and Hamptons on stilts
Turnstile the radio boys
Seasick yards are popping floorboards
Crooked nights dreams I can't speak
Overpass raining underneath
Great sales the pretty fine lines
On the road to where the trees touch from both sides
Smokestacks burning up my bills
New York cuts and Hamptons on stilts
Turnstile the radio boys
Seasick yards are popping floorboards
Choked nights dreams I can't speak
Overpasses raining underneath
Great sales the pretty fine lines
On the road to where the trees touch from both sides
Heavy boots for crying out loud
Heavy boots are caught up in the crowd
You hear the news we haven't got a chance
Heavy boots crawling on our hands
Feel the weight feel the weight

No idea what this means. But fuck, it's cool.
Well, to me I think this song is about our economy to a degree. Talking about how the smokestacks burn up our bills, could mean that the goods produced in the factories (which have smokestacks) are eating away at our money, the way we buy such useless things all the time.
I think the whole heavy boot thing is... i'm having trouble trying to word it... hmm... I guess our souls? How our souls have become so heavy and hard. Our own souls weigh so much now, it's hard to move through our day to day lives. We can't lift our feet anymore, so we have to crawl with our hands.
I hope that made sense. =]
Yeah, it could definitely be about the economy.
But I'm still not sure.
& everytime I think about "Heavy Boots" I think of the Mafia giving people cement shoes to drown them...
Heh. Metaphor? Am I totally off? Awesome song, regardless.
Sounds like it is alluding to the book "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathon Safran Foer.
The main character mentions having "heavy boots" many times in the book. The protagonist also is searching to find clues as to what a key means he found in his fathers closet after he was killed in 9/11, like the burning towers made by folding bills.
"Choked nights dreams I can't speak" is also very similar to his grandparents.
That's what I was thinking. Oscar, (the main character in "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"), says he has "heavy boots". I think it means most like you're in a slump that you can't get out of.
