There Is Nothing Wrong with Hating Rock Critics Lyrics
I'm not confused like you, pig
You're falling from your tree
There's something wrong with you
There's something wrong with me
There's nothing wrong with me
I'm not impressed by you maggots
Falling on the sea
There's something wrong with you
There's nothing wrong with me
But there is something definitely wrong with you
And the way that you view
Your place in the world
You are wrong
You can say what you want
But the truth is so clear
How can you think you are better than anyone?
The thought of it is really just absurd
Your cynical opinions have no depth
You're uninsightful and irrevelant, haven't you heard?
It's time that you heard
I'm not confused like you, twit
You Lester Bangs wannabe
There's something wrong with you
There's nothing wrong with me
There's nothing wrong with me
I'm not impressed by your rank
And tried adolescent ennui
There's something wrong with you
There's nothing wrong with me
But there is something definitely wrong with you
And the way that you view
Your place in the world
You are wrong
You can say what you want
But the truth is so clear
How can you think you are better than anyone?
You don't even create, you just critique
It's so obscene the way that you derive the words of artists
About whom you're not even worthy to speak
Not worthy to speak
We think that you doubt having truth, truly prophetic
It's creepy how you act as if everything is copacetic
Your venomous wit is your crutch
And your heart is so corrupt
You degrade everything you touch
Because you're the champion of the dismissive review, yeah
In your signature style, we compose this review of you
You're falling from your tree
There's something wrong with you
There's something wrong with me
There's nothing wrong with me
Falling on the sea
There's something wrong with you
There's nothing wrong with me

Umm...I'm going to (ironically) criticize these lyrics. This isn't "eloquent anger", it's just a ragtag collection of slam lines that include "you don't even create, you just critique", which is a really lame argument. The prophetic/copacetic couplet is laughably bad. This song has a great title, though. It would be much better if the lyrics were full of critic-speak that exposes itself has hollow and shallow. The cleverness in this song ends at the title.
How is the "you don't create" line a lame argument? I think it takes a lot more guts to write and preform music today than it does to wait around for the newest releases to bitch about for a living. Also, if the song seems cartoonishly spiteful or simplistic, I think the last line ("In your signature style, we compose this review of you") implies it was written that way intentionally. Besides, a song doesn't have to be a sound argument. I think this song effectively expresses some raw, sincere emotion better than it makes an argument against music critics....

Oh my god this song! I can't yell along loud enough.
me too!! to all the art critics, not only the rock ones when i grow up, i wanna be eloquently angry like kevin barnes
I think you get to a point where you stop trying to argue on their "eloquent" terms, and just let the words spit out, as naive as others may see it. It doesn't really matter when you get to that point. It's just like, "go away". Maybe that's not how Kevin meant it, but it's sure how I feel sometimes.
It's an Oscar the Grouch song...
