In her book about their relationship (titled "Forever Yours, Faithfully") his widow, Lorrie Morgan, says she listened to the song repeatedly on the way to his funeral.
Although this song is beautiful, actually very beautiful it also makes me sad. Keith wrote and sang this song for his beautiful wife,but he couldn't get help for his eternal pain which lead to his suicide. I was married once to a man who wrote beautiful poems and notes. Sadly he killed himself as well. Sometimes you have to look "real deep" for a song meaning after a tragic loss.
