Where The Road Parts Lyrics

Its ironic how I fall just to get back up again
A fix to cure this ailing bitter agony
Meet me where the road parts you remember where we first met
So tongue and cheek with stale irony, if it pleases you it pleases me
Just an innocent call a telephone call
Just an innocent call

Now if you were in bloom
I’d pluck your petals clean
Although it won't seem so I can promise you my ego's running me
Then I'd be called
You were the only one that didn’t fold
But I just broke right down for you in an attempt to gain control

Maybe I'm a waste of time...
Sacrifice another life...

You were the only one that didn’t fold

i can not wait til Casey releases a full manuscript of this story after the six acts. All this cryptic symbolism and different interpretations are great, but I'm really looking forward to the real story of the Dear Hunter.

Though, half the fun is in what it all could mean.

"Its ironic how I fall just to get back up again A fix to cure this ailing bitter agony" His problem is lack of trust in Ms. Leading seeing as her prior profession was prostitution. "Meet me where the road parts you remember where we first met So tongue and cheek with stale irony, if it pleases you it pleases me" He met her at The Dime, IIRC. see "The Bitter Suite 1" "Just an innocent call a telephone call Just an innocent call" The breakup, I presume. "Now if you were in bloom I’d pluck your petals clean Although it won't seem so I can promise you my ego's running me" She was in bloom when he truly fell in love with her beyond her physical attributes. see "The Bitter Suite 3" you know what plucking petals means. ;) When he mentions his ego, I believe it's his way of saying that he know's that she loves him and would remain loyal to him but he can't shake the feeling of distrust he displays in "Red Hands". "You were the only one that didn’t fold But I just broke right down for you in an attempt to gain control" She's the only one who proved her loyalty but he broke down and couldn't get over his insecurities. "Maybe I'm a waste of time... Sacrifice another life..." General self loathing and regret after a breakup. "You were the only one that didn’t fold" He's realizing that she was the only whore to remain loyal.

But that's just how I see it.

I think he's at a point in his life where he's stuck, so, ironically, he calls on "the only one that didn't fold"...

I agree with thew_matic. I think he's mad at himself that he did fold so quickly, and he wishes that she would be calling him as much as he calls for her.

I think this is Hunter leaving a message for Ms. Leading on her answering machine or something of the like. He's trying to say he's leaving her but is finding it hard to say. Hence the line in Dear Ms. Leading: "Did you get the message in the message that I sent."He truely wants to stay with her, but his pride won't allow it.

i love this song ive seriously been listening to it for like hours.

"Its ironic how I fall just to get back up again" This is the Dear Hunter regretting leaving Ms. Leading. "You were the only one that didn't fold" is him saying she was the only true character of the whole story. Although, in the next song he realizes this isn't the case.

after he catches ms. leading with another man (Red Hands), his heart is broken and he breaks it off with her. but now, ms. leading is in love with the dear hunter, and she wants to meet him where they met, where the road parts. the line isn't "maybe where the road parts" it's "meet me where the road parts" this song is written from the alternate perspective of ms. leading. the bit about the ego makes me think that she's talking about her profession... rather than for love, she sleeps with men for money, so it's her ego, not her heart guiding her. also, i think "you're the only one that didn't fold" means that the dear hunter did not show up when she asked him to meet her, so she's saying that he didn't give into his love/lust for her because she hurt him so badly, even though others might.
