A with Living Lyrics
Lying down beneath the stars
Alone at last, I rest
Feeling right, feels good, but being right is best
Upshooting stars have their effect
Perfect things left lain
Oft our hands are held as perfect as our sleep
Heavy hearts come hold our hands
Took at last to understand that light and dark are rust
And all the rest is dust
If we can't, it's understood that we never could
The stars still helped when we fell
Would our hands do what they should
What they turn from green to brown
As any child would tell
What makes the sound
What shakes the ground
It is the greatest
Heavy hearts come hold our hands
The planets help you understand
Light and dark are on and off
And all thats' left is us
Alone at last, I rest
Feeling right, feels good, but being right is best
Perfect things left lain
Oft our hands are held as perfect as our sleep
Took at last to understand that light and dark are rust
And all the rest is dust
The stars still helped when we fell
Would our hands do what they should
As any child would tell
What makes the sound
What shakes the ground
It is the greatest
The planets help you understand
Light and dark are on and off
And all thats' left is us

when i listen to this song i imagine the singer on one of those stargazing nights -- he thinks to himself about the universe and life
eventually he concludes for himself that "light and dark are on and off" (or the earth is light, filled with life, and dark is the universe, not with life). "and all that is left is us"
"what turn to green to brown" suggests death, and even kids know that "what makes the ground... greatest", obviously us humans. we are cursed with consciousness, but it also makes us the greatest over all other organisms.
"What they turn from green to brown" I interpret this as Nature being destroyed by humans (they).

Nature and music (What makes the sound/What shakes the ground) any child will tell you are the greatest things in life.

Yeah, I think it's like getting grade "A" in school. So in that sense it could be about (maybe an old?) person who has understood what life is about; how small we are compared to the almost limitless universe; how everything must eventually die and how to accept it; that everything, light and dark, will always be in a perfect balance.
Once we really understand this, perhaps in the end of our lives we get an "A" in living. :-)
Now that I think about it the 1st and 3rd "???" is probably "A".
The song title is "A With Living", so... maybe "A" is pronounced as in bar or car.
"A With Living" - the title in itself seems to mean at one with existence, and this links in with the elemental references of the song: "beneath the stars", "light and dark", "The planets". Just a general appreciation of Being.
"feeling alright is good, but being alright is best"
"take your breath to understand"
"heavy hearts come hold our hands"
are how i hear those lines.
i agree with you on the meaning though. bein at peace with being alive.
Feeling right, feels good, but being right is best. I'm pretty sure that how that lines goes. I'm seeing them soon, I'll try and ask them. =)
i saw them live and you can tell by their mouths that their saying, "light and dark are on and off"
the first ??? is "right"
I always thought it was "Feel it right, feels good, but being ??? is best..." I'll be seing them next week, so hopefully they'll plaay this song, and I'll update.
?feeling right feels good but being right is better?
?oft our hands are held and perfect hymns are sang?
I agree that it is "oft our hands are held and perfect hymns are sang," that's what it sounds like to me. It also sounds like "light and dark are on and off." Seems to make sense.
Plus, this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, just throwing that out there.
I always thought the first set of ??? were "alone".
Anyways, I love this song. So much. There's such an infinite sense of peace about it.
