Neighbour Lyrics
Haaaaaa yeah (x3)
I am your neighbour I can see you
I got these blinds that I peek through
And when you're crying
I see your tears fall down
They're making oceans
That in I
Sink and drown (x2)
Oh Nooooo
I feel I know you
I feel I know you well
I've seen you go through
I've seen you go through hell
I was there when you
First let euphoria
Spill on your bed sheets
I could feel
What you felt
Do you feel used?
Well I would too, I would too
And would you use me
Like I did you?
Oh, you would too
I am your neighbour
I can hear you
I got this tin can
With a string through
And when you're crying
I hear your shaky breath
And when you're lying
I hear your heart confess
Time's slipping away
'Cause I see your moving signs everyday
You got your things in your boxes
Your oven's always cold
You'll leave me all alone with just an
Empty peep hole
Do you feel used?
Well I would too, I would too
And would you use me
Like I did you?
Oh, you would too
I got these blinds that I peek through
And when you're crying
I see your tears fall down
They're making oceans
That in I
Sink and drown (x2)
Oh Nooooo

Since nobody's given an interpretation, this is a great song from the perspective of a peeper. A next door neighbor who spies through a peephole to watch the life of the person next door. It seems the peeper starts to fixate on the neighbor.
"And when you're crying I see your tears fall down They're making oceans That in I Sink and drown"
He empathizes with the neighbor and over time, feels as though he's actually a part of their life, even though he's just a creepy peeper.
"I feel I know you I feel I know you well I saw you go through I saw you go through hell
I was there when you First let euphoria Spill on your bed sheets I could feel What you felt"
I love this part. I believe "euphoria" spilled on the bed sheets refers to masturbation of sex. An organism basically and from "I could feel what you felt" it suggests that the peeper probably wanked to this. What a great, subtle way to describe it, honestly great lyrics.
I think the peeper realizes how creepy his actions are as it says: "Do you feel used? Well I would too, I would too"
Yet he justifies it with:
"Oh,And would you use me Like I did you? Oh you would too"
In the end, the neighbor moves away, perhaps without ever realizing the person next door's intimate knowledge of them, and the peeper is left alone with his "empty peephole".
@samanthajp I totally agree! and when it gets to the part "And when you're crying I hear your shaky breath And when you're lying I hear your heart confess" Its like after the neighbor watches them they go up to them the next day and ask them if they're ok. So if they don't know the neighbor well, they'd say that they're fine, but he'd know that they're lying

i think it’s not at all a song about a neighbor peeping into the person next door’s room, i think it’s more about how fucked the world is. ‘the world being fucked up’ is a recurring theme for mother mother; the stand is about sins, infinitesimal is about that we don’t really matter compared to the bigger picture (earth is small compared to the rest of the universe and we act like the biggest) and verbatim is about the stereotypes (femine males and masculine women being seen as gay and lesbian, even though they could still be hetero, ryan literally sang ‘what defines a straight man straight?’). in my view, neighbour is about not having privacy, even when you think you have. there’s always something wachting and that’s scary and fucked up. neighbour is also in a theme of everyone being the same (at least one other person went through the same things). but, this is my opinion and i could be wrong.
I can't believe that anyone has yet to comment on this great song. I need to hear more of this band, but this track, I just love it. Singing reminds me of a Frank Black, Gordon Gano hybrid or something. Hail Canadian Alt-Rock!
I love them & their lyrics are so creative. transposing words & the creative inflections of voice at the perfect moment! Amusingly I can relate to every song in one way or another. Loving the cello in this, it emotes a sadness in their joint loneliness.Very cool, very cool.

I was there when you First let euphoria
are you sure it's euphoria? I always hear "first let your fury out".
Yeah it's definitely euphori-a... ;-)

no, maybe you're right, "euphoria" seems to make more sense when you consider the next line
does anyone else thing that crazy little 2- or 3-bar blues solo should have been continued??? that would've MADE the song
wonderful. i prefer touch up to o my heart any day.
lol voyeurism. perfect song.
Love this song. The band is amazing. There's a video for this song on youtube, and its okay, except I never imagined the song being a guy talking to a girl. Don't know why, because it seems like a creepy neighbour would probably be a man.
