Lullabye Lyrics

Goodnight, goodnight, sweet baby
The world has more for you than it seems
Goodnight, goodnight
Let the moonlight
Take the lid off your dreams

We took a small flight
In the middle of the night
From one tiny place to another
And my parents they remained
At the shack with Lorraine
And my aunt and my grandpa and brother
We walked past the tarmac
And boarded the craft
The rain had me chilled to the bones
Just the three of us took flight that night
Uncle Richard, me and James Earl Jones

And the pilot, he gave me a blanket
While the tall dark man sang to me
In deep rich tones

Goodnight, goodnight, sweet baby
The world has more for you than it seems
Goodnight, goodnight
Let the moonlight
Take the lid off your dreams

I'm surprised no one has commented this song. I mean, it doesn't make much sense and I don't think it's supposed to, but its just supposed to be a lullabye. Love the random reference to James Earl Jones. It puts me to sleep, in a good way.

"Let the moonlight take the lid off your dreams." What a great line. I love this song. As for meaning, I haven't the foggiest what he's going on about - planes and James Earl Jones? But somehow it all works. It's almost like that's part of a dream, because often times things don't make a lot of sense in dreams - On the flight the pilot came himself to give him a blanket. His parents weren't there, but for some reason James Earl Jones was. Sounds like something that'd happen in one of my dreams.

I read on one of my brother's music books that one of ben's friends wrote this about a friend of his who died. It makes a little sense, especially at "The world had more for you than it seems..."

I can't understand how nobody gets the meaning of this song. I was listening to the WASO Live version of this when I realized what it was about. To me it seems like it's about a childhood trip where he was going somewhere, and he was scared, but he was shown love by the pilot and his music, telling him not to be scared and to be everything you can.

At a concert in Dear Valley Utah in July 2010, he gave a brief explanation of a song. He said one of his friends wrote it. It is literally about a plain ride they took with James Earl Jones. Their uncle and them were on a small flight and James Early Jones happened to randomly be on it. A very literal song.

It says "We are not authorized to display these lyrics." This displeases me.
