Comparisons are easily done
Once you've had a taste of perfection
Like an apple hanging from a tree
I picked the ripest one
I still got the seed

You said move on, where do I go?
I guess second best is all I will know

'Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you (thinking of you, thinking of you)
Thinking of you
What you would do if you were the one
Who was spending the night (spending the night, spending the night)
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes (eyes)

You're like an Indian summer in the middle of winter
Like a hard candy with a surprise center
How do I get better once I've had the best
You said, there's tons of fish in the water
So the waters I will test

He kissed my lips, I taste your mouth (I taste your mouth), oh
He pulled me in, I was disgusted with myself

'Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you (thinking of you, thinking of you)
Thinking of you
What you would do if you were the one
Who was spending the night (spending the night, spending the night)
Oh, I wish that I
Was looking into your

The best
And yes, I do regret
How I could let myself let you go
Now, now the lesson's learned
I touched it, I was burned
Oh, I think you should know

'Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you (thinking of you, thinking of you) (oh)
Thinking of you (oh)
What you would do if you were the one
Who was spending the night (spending the night, spending the night)
Oh, I wish that I
Was looking into your, your eyes

Looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Oh, won't you walk through
And bust in the door and take me away
Oh, no more mistakes
'Cause in your eyes, I'd like to stay, stay

    General Comment

I hadn't thought about the song in that way untill reading those comments...

To me it's about being unfaithful to my boyfriend.

We were fine and perfectly in love for over a year untill I went on holiday and met someone and cheated and now my boyfriend and I are on the rocks and all I can think of is the other guy whilst with him which is leading to our inevitable break up..

"Comparisons are easily done Once you've had a taste of perfection Like an apple handing from a tree I pick the ripest on i still got the seed"

Before we were fine now I keep comparing my boyfriend to him because he is more my 'taste of perfection'.

"You said move on Where do I go? I guess second best is all I will know"

The other guy has now told me that it cannot work for us due to distance and various other things, so second best; the boyfriend, is all I will know.

"Cause when I'm with him I am thinking of you, thinking of you What you would do if You were the one who was spending the night Oh, I wish that I was looking into your eyes"

Obvious.. just wishing it was him instead.

"You're like an Indian summer in the middle of winter Like a hard candy with a surprise center"

The fact he walked into my life when everything was going okay and suprised me by disrupting my normal relationship.

"How do I get better once I've had the best? You said there's tons of fish in the waters"

I feel that he is the one for me even though he does not and he also tries to convince me that I can move on from my boyfriend..

"He kissed my lips I taste your mouth He pulled me in, I was disgusted with myself"

Thinking of him all the time, and the disgust with myself as I think of being unfaithful to my boyfriend.

"The best, and oh, I do regret How could I let myself let you go? And now, now the lesson's learned I touched and I was burned"

Me not fighting for this other guy enough and letting him go. The 'lesson learned' and getting 'burned' is the fact that all the affair has caused is pain and suffering for everyone involved.

"Wont you walk through and Bust down the door and Take me away No more mistakes 'Cause in your eyes I'd like to stay"

Wishing that he would come and save me from the heartache whilst with anyone else. The 'mistakes' being the cheating.

ANYWAY, that's just a different perspective of the song from my personal POV.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
