Covers Are Thrown Lyrics

If you're to believe in the things that I say,
You should know I speak up even when I'm afraid.
Cause it scares me more to think you wouldn't know,
How I feel when those covers get thrown.
And I kick them off in the night when we're sleeping,
So we wake from our warm dreams to find ourselves freezing,
And you corner me on edge and expect that I'm fleeing.
But it's just that those covers got thrown.

You're enough for me,
Am I enough for you?
And ordinarily I wouldn't ask such a question of you.

And it's only recently to me occured,
that I'm not at all sure if I could take the hurt,
Or the ache I'd incur from a heart-break like her.
But it's too late those covers got thrown.

You're enough for me,
Am I enough for you?
And ordinarily I wouldn't ask such a question.

But I've been investing much more than I'm worth,
Fully expecting to collect a return,
And based on the climate things could be much worse,
But this gambling frightens me.

Try not to be careless or jealous with hearts.
And try not to think of the end from the start.
And don't cripple your future with limps from your past,
Cause it can get cold when those covers get thrown.

For me the line: You're enough for me, Am I enough for you?

For anyone in a new relationship...this thought as you lay next to the person...reverberates in your head in those darkened hours

Also from a purely simple point of view: two people laying beside each other...covers are thrown ie: one or both persons get hot...they both awake cold comes back to:

You're enough for me:...you are perfect...you are my fire...my heat Am I enough for you?...doubting oneself in a relationship will make both cold

The second last verse again deals with self doubt whilst the last sums it up nicely and precisely:

You are disrespecting the other person if you believe you are not enough... Learn from your past...but don't be stuck there...live in the moment...or the future will be just like your past...cold ie alone...because you chose not to believe in a brighter ie warmer future

Try not to be careless or jealous with hearts. And try not to think of the end from the start. And don't cripple your future with limps from your past, Cause it can get cold when those covers get thrown

Josh himself says: It's about the idea of actually being satisfied with something for the first time, and how that's actually a very confronting idea,"

I believe the covers getting thrown is a metaphor for laying everything in a relationship out in the open, no longer putting on a facade that everything is fine when you both know it's not.

I also feel that maybe this song is about one person putting more effort into the relationship than their partner and to remind people not to let past unsuccessful relationships dictate their hopes for future ones.

I would love to hear anyone else's interpretations as these lyrics fascinate me.
