this song, in my opinion, is saying that in the spirit of the new year and the idea of a new years resolution, its time to turn life around and/or change things to better yourself. That some mistakes have been made in the aspects of drugs, relationships, and choices in general, but its time for a clean slate and learn from those choices to get another shot at life.
this song really related to me at the turn of this year because i made some really big choices that brought me close to death, and i used this interpretation as my drive to kick start my life in the right direction.
