Seems like the person singing had a significant other in their life at some point... but it was an impossible relationship that could not work. They couldn't be together (and possibly never were), but the life of the singer has taken sharp turns and he found himself in the dark... and the only person who'd make him feel better is that impossible relationship person. He doesn't necessarily want it or can explain the feelings, hence the "strange education"... he knows he'll be "cast away" with the love that comes from the significant other, but that's what he needs to survive... he just needs that person to "reach out and touch". They will never be together, but will always need each other and be there for each other.

I love this song. Also got it from iTunes. I have listened to it all morning. It seems to me this song is talking about a man who has been cast off by a woman and he is learning his lesson. He is pleading with her to save him from drowning in his sorrow. He just wants her back. I think it is beautiful!

I think this song is a statement about love in general. Whether it be romantic with another person, a parent, a brother or sister, a friend, or whatever. It's about the turbulent relationship that love is. One minute you have a great relationship with that person, but then you are "cast away" by an action the person does out of love. Another take is that this person is traveling, trying to find his or her place in the world. The "into your arms" could signify that they think they've found somewhere where they culd "lay down there bones" but something happens to cast them away from the place (whether by the environment or their own intuition. The "Strange Education" symbolizes love or finding ones self.

this songs a bit odd. it was a free download on itunes and i figured whatve i got to lose, got enuff time to. so i listened to it, and it was just a bit odd, but i can stand it. ya...about the meaning, guess its bout a dude who wants this grl but doesnt know how to get her i guess. havnt really thot a/b the meanin tho so thats the best i got.
