The thought of getting older
And regretting things that I have done
Only one thing made me notice
How I failed to keep my precious one

And though I know that
You are with me always
It still makes me cry

How time just passes
I can't believe
How much I miss you
Life keeps blowing past us
I can't believe
That you're not with me (with me)

I lost you in the darkness
A place that I have since become
You know I'd take you with me
But I couldn't stand to hurt your mum

Just know that everyday
I see your face
And wish that you were mine

How time just passes
I can't believe
How much I miss you
Life keeps blowing past us
I can't believe
That you're not with me (with me)

If I had my way
You'd be here with me
But that will never be

It's breaking my heart
That you'll never see
How much you mean to me

How time just passes
I can't believe
How much I miss you
Life keeps blowing past us
I can't believe
That you're not with me (with me)

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
