Glen wrote this song about the public's perception of him, about the people who heckle him when the band plays live, and about being "famous" in general. And the need to escape from all of the those things.

The lines :

Will you dance, monkey dance Don't have me repeating myself Because you came here by chance And I'll knock you right down again

deal specifically with live performances and being a kind of "performing monkey" at times.

Overall though the sentiment of the song is "Look, I write these songs with all that I am, and I perform with passion - but don't think you know me. And don't think that whatever you think or say about me, my life, my music and my art will kill or affect the "real" me.

Glen explained that sometimes he's amused by people thinking he's some sort of lovely, perfect bloke when, in reality, the "real" Glen can be a liar, a cheat and a total bastard.
