Beautiful Mourning Lyrics
Fuck you all
My redemption is knowing
This will be over
My aggression, I fear I've lost control
Who is this man I said?
Mirror reflects a stranger
Fist shatters the despair
Awake the pain to anger
How do I close thine eyes of murder?
How do I close thine eyes of murder
Staring into me?
My obsession is dying
Sinking me deeper
My depression
This world has disavowed
Razor at wrist I seethe
The flesh is peeled apart now
Gone is my faded dream
Failure, I welcome in thou
How do I close thine eyes of murder?
How do I close thine eyes of murder
Staring into me?
Oh, this lifetime in sorrow
God, let the angels die
(Let the angels die)
This is our last goodbye
(Our last goodbye)
In love and death we cry
(Death we cry)
Our last goodbye, go
No, no, no
Spit in the face of loss
Coward, my own self-hatred
No more I bear this cross
Struggle and rise from the dead
This lifetime in sorrow
God let the angels die
(The angels die)
This is our last goodbye
(Our last goodbye)
In love and death we cry
This will be over
My aggression, I fear I've lost control
Mirror reflects a stranger
Fist shatters the despair
Awake the pain to anger
How do I close thine eyes of murder
Staring into me?
Sinking me deeper
My depression
This world has disavowed
The flesh is peeled apart now
Gone is my faded dream
Failure, I welcome in thou

This is our last goodbye
(Our last goodbye)
(Death we cry)
Our last goodbye, go
Coward, my own self-hatred

Struggle and rise from the dead
God let the angels die
(The angels die)
This is our last goodbye
(Our last goodbye)
In love and death we cry

First of all. "The Blackening" is probably one of the greatest albums ever created. “Absolutely fucking stunning”, used by Kerrang.
This song is beautiful, but sad in another way. "Razor at wrist I seethe. The flesh is peeled apart now. Gone is my faded dream" - it's quite beautiful, but still heartbreaking at the same moment.
What this songs means to me: There comes a time in every mans life where we all have a breakdown, nervous, psychic, whatever. But this is what we in this modern world of ours would call "Emo".
YES, this song is EMOTIONAL, very emotional. So, I'd say this song is about one or more of the members dark times, where everything seems like nothing.
But what do I know..

I totally agree with that statement like to all of the older "MetalHeads" Master of Puppet's by metallica was the best metal record of all time. As a young metal fan this is. I allmost show him as much respect as I show my own father. I look up to him as he is my brother. He also set's an example meaning You can do anything if you put your mind to it which is why I love machine head.
I think Rob Flynn wrote in Metal Hammer: "This is one of the more personal songs on the album, and is basically about when I was much younger and fried on acid, really depressed and took a razorblade to my wrists. Something stopped me, but I don't know what."
This is such an emotional song. I love how the clean interludes contrast with the sheer rage of the heavier parts. The lyrics are so poetic and sorrowful, and every time I hear it, it still overwhelms me.
Great song, great album, great band.
this song is so emotional
it makes me cry
dont judge me
The comments about this song being about Robb when he was depressed (don't think him being on drugs has any relevance in the song ... can't pick out any obvious mention of a drug). Up to the verse with "our last goodbye" it is looking at a man seriously depressed and considering taking his own life.
The talk about murder is suicide (murder himself).
However the last two verses focusing on him fighting back and managing the depression (or at least turning a corner). Whereas before "our last goodbye" was questioning whether he should end it all, but the end the same line means something entirely different. "Our last goodbye" to those thoughts (of suicide) and depression.
This track is about a time in every man's life, where we all have a breakdown, either nervous or psychological. On the brink of despair, constantly holding a razor to your wrists, whether metaphorically or literally. It tackles a deep internal conflict when one grapples with their darker impulses and the desire to escape from the pain that accompanies them; Death may feel like the easier solution, freeing us from the pain of life.
Fixed. Sorry bout that.
I think every MH song would be made better with the random addition of a natural harmonic around the 5th-7th fret in the middle of the verse/chorus riff...oh wait they do...damn MH rock me so much!
This song is about when Flynn was trippin' on acid and he took a razor to his wrist.....he also stated in a interview that he has no idea what stopped him from killing himself cuz' he was totally fried at the time.....
Absolutely fucking great song. It kills me everytime I hear it.
such a powerful song. i'm not sure what to make of the line "god let the angels die". could have something to do with robb's atheism, but the "who" is this man i stare stanza could be what stopped him. could very well be robb questioning his beliefs.
