Fire In the Sky Lyrics
Fire in the sky, outta the blue and into the red depths
Time for you and I to try to fall asleep in the bed they've made us
All came crumblin' down tears in her eyes as it rained confusion
The whole world has changed
I don't understand
How one can kill a man
In the name of peace
That's ridiculous
They say eye for an eye so they fire in the sky and they come outta nowhere
Time for you and I to turn on the big screen see what's happenin'
And as those children die pawns in the game of collateral damage
The whole world goes mad
Standing here on quick sand
The more we fight we sink
And vengeance gives us hope
At least that's what we think
At least that's what we think, coz
As we make amends by
Getting our revenge
We sort nothing out
Just add to the doubt
And with God on both sides
Death is justified
Whatever the name
Then we're all to blame
So as the spirits fly
To honour those who've past
We've got to get along
While the time still lasts
Bury the hatchet deep
So we all can weep
And heal all this pain
So, so we can live again
So, so we can live again coz
As we make amends by
Getting our revenge
We sort nothing out
Just add to the doubt
And with God on both sides
Death is justified
Whatever the name
Then we're all to blame
I don't understand
How one can kill a man
In the name of peace
That's ridiculous
But I understand
That I will defend
My family from
Both sides of misery
Time for you and I to try to fall asleep in the bed they've made us
All came crumblin' down tears in her eyes as it rained confusion
The whole world has changed
How one can kill a man
In the name of peace
That's ridiculous

Really great song. Who's to say no one is writing anti war songs like they used to?
This was instantly my favorite song on his new album. The lyrics are amazing.
john butler is pretty good at songs like this (by pretty good i mean excellent) its definatly my favourite politically motivated song he has done so far, and i like how he deals with the religious element of war.
Yeah...definitely one of my favorite songs on the album...so political, yet so catchy...it's political in way's you wouldn't (and don't) pick up on until you realize the lyrics....great anti-war song
The lyrics are very good, and very catchy. How about the vocals, and especially the AWESOME guitar solo towards the end? it's a great song. Imagine this one live...
I can really only listen to it live. Maybe it's coz I've had the song since 2005 so it sounds strange from the studio, but I don't really like the staccato-sounding guitar bits. Flows much better in the live version, I think.
One of JBT's few anti-war songs, and how good is it!? No doubt written in the aftermath of the commencement of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, it critiques the absurdities of both war and religion (which is used to justify war). Its greatest comment is his question - "But I don't understand, how one can kill a man, in the name peace? That's ridiculous".
