Candy-O Lyrics

Candy-O I need you
Sunday dress, ruby ring
Candy-O I need you so
Could you help me in
Purple hum, assorted cards
Razor lights, you bring
And all to prove you're on the move
And vanishing
Candy-O I need you so

The edge of night distract yourself
Obstacles don't work
Homogenize, decentralize
It's just a quirk
Different ways to see you through
All the same in the end
Peculiar star that's who you are
Do you have to win
Candy-O I need you so

I think this is my favorite Cars song. I really like Elliot's guitar solo. Lyrics are awesome, just a killer chick that it's so beautiful and alluring, yet out of reach. The chase, the infatuation, the unrequited love... classic song about yearning.

One of my all time fav's. Kindof in your face - maybe raw almost punkish. I agree @ heykyleinsf, Mister Lefty Elliot solo is awesome. Candy-o I need you! Ben is my favorite Rock voice of all time.

This is one of my favorite Cars songs. It's such a great combination of weird and rocking, with the aggressive synth and Elliot's guitar carrying us through. The oblique lyrics keep me interested and curious. "Homogenize... Decentralize..."--what does that mean in this context, if anything? And what is the context, anyway? Could be drugs but given the album is called Candy-O and has the famous Vargas drawing of the girl on the car, I'd say it's about a woman.

My Opinion

This song is not about a woman. It is about psychedelic experience, LSD, psilocybin, DMT etc.

@craig17950 where are you getting this from?

Ric Ocasek loved to write songs about girls and cars, but Candy-O is more about his deeper thoughts on success as a rock star. You can read into other nuances in the words if you want, that's what makes this song so great. song.
