Dry The River Lyrics

Saw my life flash before my eyes
I've kissed the dark horse
Random lines not sure if they came out right
This is going so wrong
But you just can't stop laughing when you feel the fall
So head on down my world is ending

I'll take back everything if you stay by my side
Cause I'm told the river went dry
Believe me when I say that you'll see greater days
I didn't want to leave

Listen close to the other side
Like a storm on a summer night
What's more to hate the thoughts or the mind?
This moments taking me, I'm falling... fallen

I'll take back everything if you stay by my side
Cause I'm told the river went dry
Believe me when I say that you'll see greater days
I didn't want to leave

Been uneasy so long I feel we're not alone
Someone needs to speak to you it feels they're inside me
Writing from the lost 30's
Take caution if you chose to read
These are not my beliefs
Writing from the lost 30's.... we're not alone

I'll take back everything if you stay by my side
Cause I'm told the river went dry
Believe me when I say that you'll see greater days
I didn't want to leave

i know they are a Christian band but i believe the is one of the few songs that arnt about god or jesus

i believe its about writers block strangely enough, see i write all the lyrics for my band and after reading this song i felt like he was writing, when he really couldn't bring him self to write so he started writing about how he felt about his block

its a rather creative thing i've done it my slef a few times but it really got me in these lines

(verse 1) Saw my life flash before my eyes I've kissed the dark horse Random lines not sure if they came out right

and this line

verse 3

Been uneasy so long I feel we're not alone Someone needs to speak to you it feels they're inside me

the first part is like obvious, i dont really think i need to dig in to deep there

the second part need a lil digging but not much like hes uneasy because his inspiration has left, he cannot think of anything to put on paper

"Someone needs to speak to you it feels they're inside me"

the you i think is his paper, he is saying that all the thoughts are in his head all the words he needs to say but for some reason his pen will not write them on the paper (speak to the paper)

maybe im 100% right maybe im way off

but from a writers point of view i think thats what hes trying to get out

I think its about a love relationship. I think he did her real wrong as self centered men tend to do. But after he left his wife/girl he found out things weren't really greener on the other side. infact the "river ran dry". Well when the river ran dry he came running back to his girl. hence the chorus.

I'll take back everything if you stay by my side Cause I'm told the river went dry Believe me when I say that you'll see greater days I didn't want to leave

When he left things got real bad. so bad he almost died. he "kissed the dark horse"

also most everything they write, I hear, is from some legend of some criminals from way back so this might explain what he means by: "These are not my beliefs Writing from the lost 30's.... we're not alone"

All the songs on II are based on Ma Barker and her gang. I think this is someone in the gang describing life in the gang. When he says he "kissed the dark horse" is him realizing that by joining the gang he is taking part in evil. Ma Barker was a boss during the Prohibition era so "Writing from the lost 30's" I believe is maybe about them smuggling alcohol into the country or missing the alcohol they are no longer allowed to have.
