You're the Conversation (I'm the Game) Lyrics
You're the Conversation, I'm the Game
Photographs paint mistakes in your suitcase
So listen, Conversation, I've lost the way.
I want to be the fool in your suitcase.
Soldier, shine on, with your conscience open
and the curtain falls in with the drums..
Soldier, come on, when the final chord plays
and the chorus comes...
You're the Conversation, I'm the Game
You take my confidence from sane to brave
Make me strong, push me on and take a chance
Learn to jump the waves.
So questions, are we playing?..is your card an ace?
Am I the joker in your hand or a friend on a bad day?
More than speaking, more than thinking,
silently you're on my side
No disguise, no hide-and-seeking
Mouth to mouth you saved my life.
Soldier, shine on, with your conscience open
and the curtain falls in with the drums..
Soldier, come on, when the final chord plays
and the chorus comes...
You're the Conversation, I'm the Game
Photographs paint mistakes in your suitcase
So listen, Conversation, I've lost the way.
I want to be the fool in your suitcase.
and the curtain falls in with the drums..

and the chorus comes...

i think this song is confession to someone how much she really likes them, then they're finally together, and how perfect is. it's beautiful either way.
Chris Corner said that when he writes a song, he sings in a made-up language untill he works the lyrics out. Sue Denim took that and turned it into real words that sound similar.
@denimgurn When I was reading these lyrics, it made me think that it WAS about Sue. Did she actually write these lyrics? Sometimes I think MAYBE Come Home is also about Sue. They had quite a run, the two of them... But, now he seems he may have something with Janine? I've also recently read somewhere about Chris and Lana Del Rey

I think this is about when you've fallen for someone, but you can't tell if they love you the same or if they're just using you.
As for me, I think this song is more about the singer's developed attraction to this unnamed "soldier" - metaphor, obviously. Long read, I know. Bear with me! :)
She's sounds like she wants to be emotionally detached to everything, whereas he's actually getting her out of it, just by being there. And he probably doesn't even know he's doing it.
The singer wonders if he's for real or not, if he sees her the way she starts seeing him:
"Photographs paint mistakes in your suitcase So listen, Conversation, I've lost the way. I want to be the fool in your suitcase."
I take this line as her wanting to be a part of his memory - because she in turn, is learning so much from him. "Photographs" being memories, "suitcase" refering to his experiences in life, maybe. But it sounds like she thinks he should treat her like a bad memory, yet even so, she hopes he'll remember her. "Fool in your suitcase"
She also praises him as if she's his secret audience in:
"Soldier, shine on, with your conscience open and the curtain falls in with the drums"
(possibly referenicing someone stepping out on stage and the curtain falling down behind them while introductory music plays in the background)
Hence her reference about him being 'conversation' - he's friendly, understanding, and listens. She's the 'game' - someone who doesn't take things seriously.
the part "So listen, Conversation" i think he is talking about himself. to himself.
the rational side of him and the confident/reckless .
the rational side of him and the confident/reckless .
He makes her feel emotionally secure and she worries whether or not his feelings for her are true or if he's just playing her.
