Brand New Key Lyrics

I rode my bicycle
past your window last night
I roller-skated
to your door at daylight

It almost seems
Like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone
But you've got something I need

Well I bought a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out you see

I’ve been looking around the world
You’ve got something from me
Well I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike
I roller-skate
Don’t drive no car
Don’t go to fast but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive
I’ve been all around the world
Some people say I’ve done alright for a girl

Well I bought a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think we should get together
And try them out you see

I’ve been looking around the world
You’ve got something from me
Well I've got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

Oh yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah

I ask your mother if you were at home
She said yeah but you weren't alone

Oh sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I’m okay alone but you've got something I need

Well I bought a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think we should get together
And try them out you see

la la la la la la
la la la la la la
la la la la la la

Oh I’ve got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I’ve got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

It's a cover of Melanie's song Brand New Key, a hit around 1971-1972.

The song is talking about quad skates, which are fastened by a screw. The key that is talked about is possibly the screw to adjust the skates.

This could be seen as an innuendo, the key in a lock symbolizing sexual intercourse.

^ Ha ha ha. I knew that I'd heard this song before. It's ridiculously catchy, though; I could see why they'd cover it.

And yes, I'm inclined to argue that it's all one big sexual metaphor. Especially with the 'I think we should get together/ And try them out you see' and the 'going pretty far for a girl' bits.

This song makes me laugh. They play it at my work all the time & we always make fun of it because it's so annoying & none of us have any idea what she's talking about...

But we all still like it. ^.^ --Hopeh. <3
