Dark Halls Lyrics
Whem we got to Boston
There was a TV in the room
You were glowing purple, green, red, black and blue
And the light in the night slammed the door
When we went downtown
All the babies laughed, clapped at our jokes
And when the doctor called it off
You ran straight through the snow
Shut your eyes to see, but you didn't see me
Down in the dark halls
We knew that the stark walls said it all
And for the first time
I found the lines to a childhood memory:
"We have the choice to breathe and it's gonna be me"
And you may think you lost it
Take it always!
Yes you may think you lost it,
Don't even wonder anymore
Erase your mind, turn 'round and slowly walk away
Slam the door
There was a TV in the room
You were glowing purple, green, red, black and blue
And the light in the night slammed the door
All the babies laughed, clapped at our jokes
And when the doctor called it off
You ran straight through the snow
Shut your eyes to see, but you didn't see me
We knew that the stark walls said it all
And for the first time
I found the lines to a childhood memory:
"We have the choice to breathe and it's gonna be me"
Take it always!
Yes you may think you lost it,
Don't even wonder anymore
Erase your mind, turn 'round and slowly walk away
Slam the door

When i first listened to this song i thought it was about abortion..??
with lines like: "All the babies laughed, clapped at our jokes And when the doctor called it off "
and
"Down in the dark halls We knew that the stark walls said it all"
and
"I found the lines to a childhood memory:" "We have the choice to breathe and it's gonna be me"
and
"And you may think you lost it"...ETc
but perhaps idk hmm the song sounds too happy to be about that though.
This song seems to be about a relationship endingggg. i believe, anyways. "and you may think you lost it, don't even wonder anymore," yeah. definately.

beyoncefan, you're on a right track but I really think it's more about miscarriage than abortion, there's nothing about the narrator having any choice in the matter. There's a line we have the choice to breathe" but i think it's about moving on, not giving up. Moreover, about the person she's singing to: And when the doctor called it off You ran straight through the snow Shut your eyes to see, but you didn't see me He doesn't seem happy about it, does he? Well, that's what I think, anyway;)
I agree with beyoncefan.
When I heard about this song, I thought it was about abortion too. I wonder who they are talking about???? Did it happen to them or to a friend of theirs?? Annie is the only one that I know who is married... interesting...
I like this song even though it's a sad topic. Reflection. The beat/melody is fun.
I like singing along to this part: "And you may think you lost it Don't even wonder anymore Erase your mind, turn 'round and slowly walk away Slam the door "
it may actually be about a miscarriage. i always thought it was about a relationship ending. "and you may think you lost it" meaning your lover's love or maybe your sense of self or entitlement.
