I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself Lyrics

I'm getting bored
Being part of mankind,
There's not a lot to do no more,
This race is a waste of time.

People rushing everywhere,
Swarming round like flies,
Think I'll buy a fourty-four,
Give 'em all a surprise.

Think I'm gonna kill myself,
Cause a little suicide,
Stick around for a couple of days,
What a scandal if I died.

Yea, I'm gonna kill myself,
Get a little headline news.
I'd like to see what the papers say
On the state of teenage blues.

A rift in my family,
I can't use the car,
I gotta be in by ten o'clock,
Who do they think they are?

I'd make an exception
If you want to save my life,
Brigitte Bardot gotta come
And see me every night.

this song describes a person who thinks suicide could be used for sympathy and atention, rather than escape from unbearable pain. This song reminds me of a white stripes lyric, 'with every chance to set himself on fire, he just ended up doin the same thing

I think that the singer is toying with the idea of suicide in a very playful manner.

He wouldn't actually do it, but what if? To me, that's the gist of the song.

Life can be unbearable sometimes. More often than not, it seems that everything that's ever been good and beautiful is going to hell. Sometimes it seems that there is no way out, no chance of improvement, no light at the end of the tunnel.

Sometimes we are impotent, incapable of improving our situation. But hey, what if I just killed myself? It's can be a calming thought to always have a way out.

To summarize: The singer's life is going to hell. He toys with the idea of suicide to alleviate his suffering.

Of course Elton sings about a teenager and this is probably a play on the public's view on teenage suicide/teenagers who think their life is hard when it's really not.

But I just listen to this song when I'm in a really bad place. Not to romanticize suicide, but to turn a depressing thought into something jolly and uplifting.
