P.S. You Rock My World Lyrics

I was at a funeral the day I realized
I wanted to spend my life with you
Sitting down on the steps at the old post office
The flag was flying at half-mast
And I was thinkin' 'bout how everyone is dying
And maybe it's time to live

I don't know where we're going
I don't know what we'll do

Walked in to the Thrif-tee
Saw the man with the hollow eyes who didn't give me all the change
But it didn't bother me this time 'cause I know I've only got this moment and it's good
I went to the gas station
Old woman honked her horn
Waiting for me to fix her car

I don't know where we're going
I don't know what we'll do

Laying in bed tonight I was thinking
And listening to all the dogs
And the sirens and the shots
And how a careful man tries
To dodge the bullets
While a happy man takes a walk

And maybe it's time to live

I think it important that this song is at the very end of the cd. After the rest of the album plays out his grief, this song is hopeful that life can go on. It is hard to allow yourself love and happiness when you are in mourning, and this song catches the moments of him realizing that at some point you have to move on- because the whole world doesn't stop for your pain.

"And maybe it's time to live" --- The final lines of the cd... No matter how much pain you are it, and how much you want it to all be over, at some point you have to decide to live- not just exist.

Such a beautiful song, easily one of E's best. Electro-Shock Blues is such a sad album, this song is a nice glimmer of hope at the end.

I feel strongly about this one. giving me chills all over. a simple quiet song yet just feel the lyrics and listen to that elevating music, the strength that E gives away is incredible
really One of the songs full of humanity I consider the most beautiful ever.

This pretty much sums it up.

So much of this song gives me goosebumps and the final "and maybe its time to live" is just beautiful.

It's the sound of coming out of a depression.

This is probably the best song Eels have, and one of the best and most beautiful songs ever written to date.

E is a true poet, his closing lyrics "How a careful man tries to dodge the bullets, while a happy man takes a walk" - He can say so much by saying so little. I want this played at my funeral.

Is there a digitized voice saying "8:30" during the fade out?

I didn't know what was being said, at the end, right? I thought it was a quack sound or something.

This song struck a chord with me, and I've used it as a template for life since I heard it over 14 years ago.
