Whole Day Off Lyrics
Have you seen my girlfriend
She lives in a pig pen
Have you seen my girlfriend
I can't seem to find her
Perhaps she is hiding
Underneath a blade of grass
Let's take the whole day off
Have you seen my new house
Looks just like a dog house
Have you seen my new house
Someone saw it walking
Straight into the ocean
He thought it was an ivory boat
Let's take the whole day off
Maybe, it's just a bad dream and I'll wake up soon
But I don't think I'll be so lucky
Maybe, it's just one of those strange days when nothing's right
No nothing seems right at all
Went up to a pay phone on a bathroom wall
But I can't remember who I wanted to call
Operator can you help me
Have you seen my garden
It is most peculiar
Have you seen my garden
Nothing there that grows
Looks anything at all like plants
I hear their voices
Let's take the whole day off
Have you seen my girlfriend
Have you seen my girlfriend
Have you seen my girlfriend

I think this song is actually about hurricane or tsunami victims in the aftermath. A girlfriend that lives in a "pig pen" (i.e. a complete mess), his new house is "walking straight into the ocean" (displaced buildings and general destruction), etc.
I think maybe it's just about one of those days where everythings odd or working against you and you wish you'd have just stayed home from work. But that's really blatant and probably not right.

I kind of see it as really taking any excuse to flake off from work, setting oneself impossible tasks. That's as far as I've gotten in my interpretation.
Maybe it's connected to the song "Grey Matter," but that keyboard sample is the only basis for this particular idea.
Y'all are overanalyzing it. It's about taking the whole day off to go on a hallucinogenic trip.
