Salt of The Earth

This song is definitely about the stuff that went down with Capitol Records.

The beginning is them being happy with getting the record deal and trying to go along with Capitol's demands. But then they realize how "dangerous" that is and that it's killing their creativity. They lament about the things they could have done with their music and that kind of exposure. But the corporate game is too much and has killed so many other artists. So they're coming back to what they had before and counting on the fans to make it worth it.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men."-Mathew 5:13

Has nothing to do with Capitol. The spectrum is a lot broader than that. Its saying that we have chosen death itself. That we as people are just allowing doctors, false love, corporate filth to persuade our every choice with out ever choosing ourselves. That we as people are letting other people make our choices. That we don't even have a voice anymore for anything. This is extremely dangerous.

actually, this song is about a close friends of Michael who's newborn child died. and in the song he mentions about how the child will never get to experience the good and bad of life.

i love this song so much. probably one of my favorites on this album.. its so sad.

this song hints strongly at abortion. i think thats what its really about..

i'll just go ahead and do a full analyzation of what i think the lyrics are saying.

the salt of the earth is used in the Bible as a name for Jesus.. i'm not sure exactly what this has to do with my point of view on this song, its probably contradicting it but oh well.

the correction being the abortion, absconder (someone who runs away) in happiness afterwards because she thinks she solved all of her problems by aborting the baby.
