southwest planes, in the valley haze
taking off in the sun
one of these days, and it won't be long
you'll look for me, baby
and i'll be gone

have we been singing the blues of love
everybody sees the stars in your eyes
floating high above the city at night
if i'm not the one, don't act surprised

sleeping in till you don't know when
what's bringing you down
line-drawn leaves on a magazine page
bringing me back to our daydream days

everybody sees the stars in your eyes
floating high above the city at night
if i'm not the one, don't act surprised

(instrumental break)

southwest planes, in the valley haze
taking off in the sun
(one of these days, and it won't be long)
one of these days, and it won't be long
you'll look for me, baby
and i'll be gone

have we been singing the blues of love
everybody sees the stars in your eyes
floating high above the city at night
if i'm not the one, don't act surprised
don't act surprised

The line “one of these days and it won’t be long / look for me baby and I’ll be gone” is definitely in reference to an exact line from Janie in Their Eyes Were Watching God (end of ch12, if anyone cares to check this— ‘some of dese mornin’s and it won’t be long, you gointuh wake up callin’ me and Ah’ll be gone”).

I am reading this book for school and got so excited to have recognized that line haha
