This song opens with a clip from the Little Rascals, it's about this girl who doesn't like the guys that are mouthy and obnoxious. She's had enough guys who are full of themselves and she's standing up for herself. She's the type that will make you wish you never pissed her off. It's a shame this song never got the attention it deserved,
I've heard a couple stations play it once in a while though. This song reminds me of a girl I used to work with, man what a firecracker.
Its about "nice guys", guys who respect girls and dont objectify them or treat them like shit per the "macho" stereotype. The singer (Kevin) is saying that his girl likes him better than the "tough guys" because he treats her right, unlike the the egotistical macho guys who walk all over her.
This is just a hugely underrated song. Can Gary Richrath freaking play guitar? Can Kevin Cronin sing with the energy of a live performance in the studio? I've always thought REO is a very underrated band for all the good stuff you hardly ever heard on the rado. Tough Guys is a great example. Completely forgotten off Hi Infidelity, but a great song. The meaning? Duh. She doesn't like the tough guys!
