These lyrics seem pretty straightfoward to me, this song is basically just about the end of the world. And might I add that the guitar for the chorus is fricking awsome!

This song is great. It's kinda 'scary' sounding, which gives it an edge... but isn't it "If you were worth it they’d skin you too", instead of "If you were worried that they’d skin you too"?
It is about the end of the world, but not necessarily that simple.
It's about the end of the world and about how between all the petty shit we fill our lives with, the drugs, the latest fashions, our celebrity idolization, we'll be so caught up with our petty existences, we won't even see the end coming.
Then, years down the road when people who had left the planet come back, or alien civilizations come centuries down the road, they'll be digging up our remains, studying us like we study cavemen. What are they going to think of all the stupid shit we had and stupid shit we did?

I love this song, it's about the world and the decline it's in. And how it's going down in such shambles that people a thousand years from now (if it gets that far) and going to be "carbon dating beer cans, condoms and twinkie wrappers".
Dudes, we're gonna be here longer than a thousand years. We may be killing the planet, but I don't think we're going to die out any time soon.

The CD version doesn't have the guitar solo in it. When it hits the bridge the sound goes "cleaner" with just the drums and organ, and then the lyrics come in "Don't need no headstone to be dead in a hole they gonna dig you up like some elephant bones". I actually prefer that version. I guess they put in the guitar for GH 3 so you'd have something to do during the bridge.
