Sister Rosetta (Capture The Spirit) Lyrics
She's a caged animal
London by night
Crashing lights and cymbals
Queens of twilight
And if I was you
I'd use the loo
Before the long drive
We compliment each other
Just like Satan and Christ
Baby when I am laid to rest
May my laughter remain
Like your kiss blew me away
Answer your spirit
I gotta know right now
I see you before me
Won't you show me how
I wear my hair fizzy
I don't copy no style
Cause kissin and a scrubbin
Has consequences
You're on the bus again
Past big ben
With your rip off oyster card
Tell your A.S.B.O. friend
To sling his hook and "go make your girl smile"
Cos baby when I am laid in earth
May my laughter remain
Like your kiss blew me away
Left your scent on my pillow
Sister Rosetta was playin
The congregation insane
Drinkin to the house with no name
You gotta capture the spirit, I gotta know right now I see you before me, won't you show me how I am the landlord, you'll be my troubadour Was it better before me? Won't you show me how, how?
You gotta capture the spirit, I gotta know right now I see you before me, wont you show me how Cause I am the landlord, and you'll be my troubadour Better before me? You just don't know how
Capture the spirit, and let it all hang out I see you before me, darlin show me now I am the landlord, You'll be my troubadour Oh oh oh oh oh, wont you show me how, how?

just a nitpick:
its "complement" not "compliment" They've got different meanings but similar spellings. Christ complimenting Satan would be interesting, though.
I think this song is a girl who was shy hence the caged up part and she needs to break free and capture the spirit and stay strong
Wow her voice dominates. Good song.
umm...this song isn't about her dog... At least I don't think it is. In case you didn't know, Sister Rosetta was a gospel singer famous for going beyond singing in churches and doing gospel shows in nightclubs.
Sister Rosetta was playin The congregation insane Drinkin to the house with no name
It's pretty obvious in that line. Sister Rosetta was playing to a 'congregation' of clubbers who were drinking in the nightclub she was playing... And she wasn't a dog..lol.
Dude, this song has nothing to do with a dog. It's not 'labradour' it's 'troubador', and that's the way it was meant to be written. This song is about breaking free and going wild. "She's a caged animal, London by night, crashing lights and symbols, queens of twilight.' I always thought of sister rosetta as like a nun, who didn't act very much like one, and the congregation was like the one in a church. It's a bit unclear, but the song rocks! >:D

hehe I like both meanings equally =D The Noisettes rock!
This is about her dog rosetta that she kept in a cage. (Hence first line, "She's a caged animal"). She is frustrated with the animal's inferior domestication, ("And if I was you, I'd use the loo"), ("Left your scent on my pillow"). She also mentions the dog's friends on their local council estate, "Tell your A.S.B.O. friend," which she obviously is unimpressed with. There is obviously a typo in the 3rd fromlast and last paragraph, where 'troubadour' should be replaced with labrador. I hope this clears up any haziness about the true meaning behind this wonderful ballad.
