Background: the Sandinistas were a militant organization that in 1979 overthrew the corrupt, oppressive, dictatorial Somoza dynasty that had ruled Nicaragua with an iron fist for 40 years. What happened afterwards, I'll leave as an exercise to the reader. Learn Nicaraguan history and you'll truly understand world history.
