how has no one commented on this? one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard!! i think its about her waking up to everything after her partner leaves. she is saying good morning because it is a new beginning and because she is only starting to feel these emotions now. i love the bit where she says:

Good morning independence... or is it loneliness?

I agree with raheel, this song should have more comments because it is absolutely fantastic! It is definitely one of her best songs.

my sister made me listen o this song. thank you sister.The first time i heard this song it wasnt actually india aries version it was by someone called dewey. i really liked this version but then my sister got india aries version and it was sooooo much better because she gave the song more soul and emotion- this is something every song needs- also thank you india arie.

Its meant to be spelled "good mourning" however i agree with the interpretation on this board. She was inspired to make this album from her difficult times during her breakup and how she found herself agen. This songs a perfect example of describing the pain she felt.

i speaks out whatever pain i feel right now, i miss him so much, couldn't really put it in words, he left me, yeah, especially when she said "good morning to the fact we're not husband and wife" that really hits home for me

Good mourning is one of the most beautifully written songs. So sad, yet so strong. Ready for love I believe is an amazing song. Feeling so ready when she wrote that son, but now having regrets. Praying for God will and having to accept it. Good mourning to the fact we are not husband and wife. We made a promise to stay, but destiny got in the way. She is going through different stages in this song, silence/pain, loneliness/regret, life/the fact she and he r not husband and wife, a kind of acceptance/strength, and last hope/faith. It's crazy how much I miss that simple good morning kiss. The simple things mean a lot don't they?

The name of the song is Good "Mourning" I think that is an important factor and makes the song that much deeper. The "morning" up to "but destiny got in the way is spelled "mourning." The change in the morning shows the growth in the song and it's protagonist. They start accepting the changes in their life and everything is going to be oksy in the end.
