The Boat Lyrics
Some days we're ripped and torn away
From the shore and tossed to a watery grave
Set adrift in the depths of the drink in the hands of the gods we curse
We call for help when no one's around
Shot down fleeting thoughts never make a sound
Set adrift in the depths of the dark in the heart of the sea where we wish
I feel it in my bones when the storm is close
Then await for the rain and the wind to blow
As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched I'm feeling so alive
Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat
We all carry the tune we love
Think of home when the waves and the going get tough
Hold our breath and go down with the wish of just one last kiss to rest
I feel it in my bones when the storm is close
Then await for the rain and the wind to blow
As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched I'm feeling so alive
Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat
From the shore and tossed to a watery grave
Set adrift in the depths of the drink in the hands of the gods we curse
Shot down fleeting thoughts never make a sound
Set adrift in the depths of the dark in the heart of the sea where we wish
Then await for the rain and the wind to blow
As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched I'm feeling so alive
Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat
Think of home when the waves and the going get tough
Hold our breath and go down with the wish of just one last kiss to rest
Then await for the rain and the wind to blow
As dark colors fill the sky I'm drenched I'm feeling so alive
Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat

From the booklet from Feast And Famine:
Some days we're ripped and torn away from the shores and tossed to a watery grave. Set adrift in the depths of the drink and in the hand of the gods we curse. We call for help when no one's around, shot down bleeding, thoughts never make a sound. Set adrift in the depths of the dark, in the heard of the sea where we wish. I feel it in my bones when the storm is close, then I wait for the rain and the wind to blow. As dark colors fill the sky, I'm drenched and feeling so alive, eyes closed tight and my ears open for the boat. we all carry the tune we love, think of home when the waves and the going get tough. Hold our breath and go down with the wish of just one last kiss to rest. I feel it in my bones when the storm is close, then I wait for the rain and the wind to blow. As dark colors fill the sky, I'm drenched and feeling so alive, eyes closed tight and my ears open for the boat.
Chuck does it again. For the longest time I would be hopeless to relate to a song like this in any fashion beyond a superficial one. Wait. No. That's too dramatic. I would love to direct a music video for this.
"Eyes closed tight my ears open for the boat."
We all need a boat sometimes.
I think this is his best song. :)
This song is supposed to be our boat. The boat in the song is characterized as a song ("eyes close tight ears open for the boat") that relieve us from the stormy waters that our life can sometimes be. For someone like Ragan, music is an outlet that can be turned to no matter the circumstance. It is within music, within songs, that we can find solstice from the crazy shipwreck that life is. Also the song is about finding that boat, and the song is called The Boat. I find that the song The Boat is currently my boat. Chuck did it again, genius.
