The Oblivion Lyrics
Oh it's hard to resist
on a night like this
Impossible to withstand
When you're holding my heart in your hand
You can lay down wherever you please
Under the moon cloud masterpiece
Let our conscience be devoured
by the sweetness of the hour
Lead me down your primrose path
And give me life and take some back
Oh how I love that song
Will you play it again
Pour all your blue tides on
Your several so-called friends
Our love is sweeter than the oblivion
Now I know you got your mind
set on somebody else
I was gonna let you down
I ain't kidding myself
Oh how I paid for past mistakes
How blessed is the flesh that breaks
Now are you wide awake
Just one more time for old times sake
Lead me down your primrose path
And give me life and take some back
Oh how I love that song
Will you sing it again
Pour all your blue tides on
your several so-called friends
Our love is bigger than the oblivion
Amen, amen
on a night like this
Impossible to withstand
When you're holding my heart in your hand
You can lay down wherever you please
Under the moon cloud masterpiece
Let our conscience be devoured
by the sweetness of the hour
And give me life and take some back
Oh how I love that song
Will you play it again
Pour all your blue tides on
Your several so-called friends
Our love is sweeter than the oblivion
set on somebody else
I was gonna let you down
I ain't kidding myself
Oh how I paid for past mistakes
How blessed is the flesh that breaks
Now are you wide awake
Just one more time for old times sake
And give me life and take some back
Oh how I love that song
Will you sing it again
Pour all your blue tides on
your several so-called friends
Our love is bigger than the oblivion
Amen, amen

Can't believe nobody's commented this. There are a lot of reminiscent memories of Nick (the singer) and a girl who does not love him anymore. He portrays himself as a fool, and the title of the song shows where he is going (The oblivion) but the lyric "our love is bigger than the oblivion" shows he wants desperately to be back with her instead of in nothingness. Great instrumentals and crooning from nick in this song, it's really one of the most beautiful songs they did in una volta.

err forgive the double post, lousy songmeanings server. :(
this is one of my favourite devotchka songs. it seems kinda sweet, but then you get the feeling it's a little more sexual, and maybe that's the reason the girl wants to leave him, because his measure of love is through sex? nick urata's voice is so engaging, i cant see how any other singer would make this song work.
agreed...one of my favorite songs they do
yeah, i think that there was once something between these two. then, one left and one was hurt. as time passes, one realize what they had and tries to return. it now stands where one is trying to convince the other what they had was great and give another chance. how does it end?...hmmm, good one, no clue. can one truely love the same after being wronged? can one really forgive and forget?...be oblivious to the past...exist within the oblivion?
I am feeling it's about a person on the verge of a drug relapse.
