Heart On The Run Lyrics
I drove Route 66 fueled on wine and prayer
I rode the rails at night and drank away my cares
I joined the circus set fire in my mouth
Chased the holy light and took my troubles south
I've seen the ancient mariner stalked by the beast
The ancient warrior seeking visions in the east
Lonesome travelers and chronicles left home
Strangers in a stranger land whose luck has turned to stone
The roads like dreaming
It's worth its wait in gold
And I'm a dreamer
My soul will not be sold
Feet on the highway
And a head bound to the sun
Home's where the heart is, and my heart is on the run
Home's where the heart is, and my heart is on the run
So I'll take the road not taken
On the path that leads to hell
Walk the good night loving trail
By the hill where Jesus fell
And Heaven's just a stairway away
I can go anywhere when there's no where left to stay
The roads like dreaming
It's worth its wait in gold
And I'm a dreamer
My soul will not be sold
Feet on the highway
Head bound to the sun
Home's where the heart is, and my heart is on the run
Home's where the heart is, and my heart is on the run

Well way to be a loser and be the only person to comment on lyrics that I submitted lol but it seems no one remembers Dave Van Ronk and the huge part he played in the folk revolution of the '60s.
I absolutely love this song, it deserves to be up there with Bob Dylan. They were friends after all, and both key parts of the same revolution.
A wonderful song. This man comes to a point in his life and realizes, looking back on all the different places he's been in his life, how old he feels...how restless he feels and how he's never been able to settle down in one place and find true happiness.
I wish there was more lyrics here on DVR. He is one of a kind.
