I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Silly Kids! Bayside got into an accident on tour and the drummer in the band died. This album was made after that happened. So throughout the album he talks about death, and god. When he says:

This means that when we were young, we never cared about god or religion. but now we are older and scared of jumping back into it. but if we try we can get back into it because the message god has for us is worth the chance we take. and if we never choose to listen we will never know what other options we had besides failure.
I disagree that's about "regaining religion" or something.<br /> <br /> I do believe it's about a failing marriage that's on the brink of a divorce. Anthony, the singer/writer, is divorced. Union under god sounds like marriage. Alone I stand, Divided we fall fall apart- Not For long, Thankfully sounds like Divorce. If anything it's another step towards disregarding religion.
