Down at the 303 Lyrics

I want some culture
Never mind the cheese
Just want to hear music
And originality

I want some culture
Never mind the TV
Just want to hear music
Down at the 303

This is a rhyme about how good music can be
How mean are its bass lines its melodies and beats
Now it’s good to have positivity
But you also must be able to crush adversaries because
We have terrorists in the music industry
Yes terrorists trying to define what music be
We are modern medicine men - cure all ills with ill beats
But some people are making music sick
And stealing all the chi
You know who you are and yes judge not lest ye
Be judged I agree in front of my plasma screen but
While you’re making a concert of convicts who
Stumbled through the contest I’m taking the
Concept of convex and putting it in a concave context
And if you were Rocksteady, Bebop and Shredder
I’d be Krang… doing that evil shit better
Music is for living yes music is essential
Music should take risks and be experimental

this song doesnt only sound amazing and has amazing skill involved in the lyrics ("While you’re making a concert of convicts who Stumbled through the contest I’m taking the Concept of convex and putting it in a concave context" that is GOOD alliteration) its also adressing a real issue, the amazing amount of rip-offs only looking to make money out of honest artists, and how much the cat empire hates them.

also: "I want some culture Never mind the cheese Just want to hear music And originality

I want some culture Never mind the TV Just want to hear music Down at the 303" they are calling to our attention the constant loss of our culture, with the youth wasting away in front of the TV (which is NOT culture), and don't care any more about the culture anymore. and its true. i mean.. if people call 50 cent an 'artist' and his 'music' 'good' then there is something wrong. i always amaze myself at hw many more ways rappers like him can come up with more ways to show off their wealth to the world, taking pride in their poor background which they havent been in for ages, and degrading women. that would be the only skill they have, and thats a pretty useless one. NOT culture

great song. But what is 303? is it some shop or something?

Bar 303 is located at 303 High st, Northcote, Victoria Australia. It's a little band venue that has been supporting music that falls through the cracks for years. It's only little but it's pure gold!

I wonder if it refers to the amazing reggea band Culture. The 'feel' is certainly theirs.

Yup. 303 is a pub that plays a lot of local bands. Street number 303 on High Street Northcote. Been going there a while, but didn't know the cat empire had a song about the place till today. Hmm.

Another inspiring song from Harry. Says so much about the current music scene, (and just this generation's idea of 'cultcha' in general).

I know that Australian as a nation allegedly has a bit of a self-confidence issue with regards to the idea of Australia having its own culture, and everyone is searching for this 'cultcha, mate' - well, of course you do, you have a fascinating history, and incredible bands like the Cat Empire contributing to your culture everyday.

And I love the Teenage Ninja Turtles ref - good work Harry!
