There Is a Light Lyrics
Hey there Sugar where ya gonna go?
I'm going downtown Daddy-o
What ya gonna do when you get there, girl?
I'm gonna get messed up in a god-shaped hole
Hey Mr Hophead, what ya gonna do?
I'm going downtown for some bad ju-ju
Ya going downtown too, Mr. Gigolo?
Damn right i am, Daddy-o...
There is a light that shines over this city
tonight
There is a light that shines over this city
tonight
Let it shine
Oh Mr High Roller where ya gonna go?
Where the real high-rollin rollers roll real dough
Hey Mr Killer man what ya gonna do?
Me and Mr Death are going downtown too...
Ain't there one god- earing citizen about?
(They're all holed up and they ain't comin' out)
What about Mr. Preacher to forgive us our sins?
(Not that carrion crow with blood on his chin)
And Mr. Politician can't he lend a hand?
(He's too busy sucking on the guts of this town)
And what about God and this armageddon?
(He's all blissed out, man, up in heaven)
Ain't there nowhere to run, ain't there nowhere to go?
(repeat line 3 more times)
Yeah, look to the sky, Daddy-o
There is a light that shines over this city
tonight
There is a light that shines over this city
tonight
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
What are the little kids gonna do, man?
The little kids are all standing around
What are the kids doing, do you know?
They're looking to the sky, Daddy-o.
I'm going downtown Daddy-o
What ya gonna do when you get there, girl?
I'm gonna get messed up in a god-shaped hole

Fun fact: Nick Cave hates this song, which is why it never appeared on B-Sides and Rarities. While it is an awesome song (one of my favorite), Nick said on an Australian talk show about a year after the soundtrack came out that he sort of 'sold out' with this tune. He said he took advantage of his creative muse at the time (I think P.J. Harvey?) because he needed the money.
@Vinnems Do you happen to know where I can find this talk show interview? Or do you know the name of the talk show. Need this for a dissertation and I cannot find this anywhere. Thanks

@Vinnems Roy and HG Nelson's Planet Norwich (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfPQZzTbVqU) if you are still doing your dissertation 6+ years later.

I always figured that the light he sings of was the bat signal since this song was on the Batman Forever soundtrack, but I'm not sure because I don't know if it was written for the movie or before the movie was made. Anyway, if this song is about Batman, all these Misters are the evil in Gotham City that he fights. I always thought it was cool because there are so many songs about Superman, but they're all sappy.
A superhero song, Nick Cave-style = pure awesomeness.
