Tire Swing Lyrics
I took the Polaroid down in my room
I'm pretty sure you have a new girlfriend
It's not as if I don't like you
It just makes me sad whenever I see it
'cause I like to be gone most of the time
And you like to be home most of the time
If I stay in one place I lose my mind
I'm a pretty impossible lady to be with
Joey never met a bike that he didn't wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn't like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn't, I wouldn't be offended
I had a dream that I had to drive to Madison
To deliver a painting for some silly reason
I took a wrong turn and ended up Michigan
Paul Baribeau took me to the giant tire swing
Gave me a push and he started singing
I sang along while I was swinging
The sound of our voices made us forget everything
That had ever hurt our feelings
Joey never met a bike that he didn't wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn't like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn't, I wouldn't be offended
Now I'm home for less than 24 hours
That's hardly time to take a shower
Hug my family and take your picture off the wall
Check my email, write a song, and make a few phone calls
Before it's time to leave again
I've got one hand on the steering wheel, one waving out the window
If I'm a spinster for the rest of my life
My yarns will keep me warm on cold and lonely nights
Joey never met a bike that he didn't wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn't like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn't, I wouldn't be offended

'If I'm a spinster for the rest of my life My arms will keep me warm for the rest of my life'
so great and so me in 30 years
Paul Baribeau!
My arms will keep me warm on cold and lonely nights
"Scotty liked all the books that I recomended and even if he didn't, I wouldn't be offended"(not that i dont get it, it just makes me wonder, and think about certain people)
i love those lines, they always make me think...kimya dawson really is the best!
I'm pretty sure that the line "And I never met a Toby that I didn't like" should be "And I never met a Tobey that I didn't like," denoting Erin Tobey and her brother, whose stage name is Matty Pop Chart. Dawson did a split with Matty Pop Chart
That makes sense. I always laughed at this line because my brother can be rather prejudice and because of my offence to the n-word he replaced it with "kuta kente" and in turn "Toby" (Roots). He felt rather justified in hearing this song.

i was thinking the same thing! thanks for clearing that up.

Paul Baribeau!! Yay.
"Coz I like to be gone most of the time And you like to be home most of the time If I stay in one place I lose my mind I'm a pretty impossible lady to be with"
story of my life.
Toby is a member of the Moldy Peaches?
how does this not have more comments.
it has this beautiful simplicity in the lyrics. and twinges of sadness that sort of pop out of nowhere and really create depth. in the first verse for example, she sets it up to be like she's taking down someone's picture because she doesn't care or he's a total jerk and then there's strange sort of mature complexity in the admission "It just makes me sad whenever I see it".....and then the part about the tire swing seems like a plain old happy thing "I sang along while I was swinging, The sound of our voices made us forget everything" but then the meaning of the song one again submerges itself in something deeper with the next line "That had ever hurt our feelings"...so not just everything but everything that had hurt feelings and obviously implicit in this is the fact that there was a painful history.
"if i'm a spinster for the rest of my life my arms will keep me warm on cold lonely nights."
i looove this.
this song's so great. and shout out to paul baribeau!!!
