Ghostship Lyrics

Majesty
Her majesty sails across the sea
And there’s a new theory for each passing week
For each covered up case of doublespeak
And I’ve got a feeling we are counting sheep
We’re in over our heads
This analogy
Only fits when I bow and call you

Majesty
Her majesty sails across the sea
And there’s a new theory for each passing week
For each covered up case of doublespeak
And I’ve got a feeling we are counting sheep
We’re in over our heads
This analogy
Only fits when I bow and call you

ok wow. I love how this song is structured. The lyrics are great, made even better by looping the verse. Just really smart and interesting. That pretty much sums up menomena.

well i think it has something to do with a false promise, and that the person telling the song, is on the short end of the deal. And I would just like to state out that if anyone actually went out and physically bought the cd, if you study the insides and outs of the cover, the songs are all put somewhere in the drawings. just letting you know....

just wanted to mention that i think this is in 7/4 time...or some strange time signature. And it's amazing.

@ahab3 I think it is either in 7/4 or it varies between 4/4 and 3/4 depending on how you notate and think about it. because it does 4, 3, 3, 4, 4, 3, 7 if you pay attention to the instrumental. I think it probably would best be interpreted as 7/4 because of the last measure in the pattern, and because of the section after the lyrics. Also yes it is amazing.

@ahab3 I believe it is in 7/8 because of the tempo of it we can interpret it to be in eights notes not quarter notes. Also yes it is amazing.

Hmmm... doesn't ghostship refer to a ship with skeletal crew? As in: ships lost at sea which spend eternity drifting aimlessly, with a skeletal crew who pine forever for their families, their loved ones?

doublespeak? is this not a refrence to the book 1984 by george orwell?

Well, it wasn't invented by George Orwell and it was coined in the 1950s.

Newspeak is what Orwell uses in 1984. Doublespeak didn't come as a term until after Orwell's death.

i agree, the first time i heard this song, my mind immediately connected it to Orwell's 1984

Am I crazy or is there some Ping Pong going on around 1:45?

I would say a combination of ping pong and clapping.

Knowing them, it would be proper ping pong, probably.

It...makes me think of the weather, with "her majesty" being the sun. Each week the meteorologist makes some guesses for the forecast and we listen intently and talk about it with each other just as a way to pass the time, weather is too complex for us to understand in any long term sense. He relates it at the end to the unpredictable nature of a loved one.
